Broken bones..

What is the correct procedure for dealing with a broken bone?

I broke my arm and had surgery to put it back together.

I'm being told I "no longer possess" a medical.

I thought as the pilot, it was my responsibility to judge myself fit to fly or not. Obviously with a broken arm I'd ground myself until I was physically able to aviate.

Do I need to go get a new medical or just report the incident on my next medical application?

i asked my ame about this exact same thing a few years ago when i broke my wrist. he said its fine to just report it on the following medical since broken bones is not a disqualifying condition

You are disqualified under 61.53 and must self ground. Once the fracture is healed and you can function normally, you can return to flight duty. Just report the fracture and surgery on the next medical. Obviously, if you end up with loss of function that could hamper your ability to function safely, you must send records to the FAA for their blessing.
