Bringing your food.. Any good recipes?

I've lost 18 pounds since Feb by drastically reducing processed sugar intake and just not eating as much at any one time. Restaurant portions are often SO big, it's like 2 meals (or more!) on one plate! Either share a plate with someone or eat half and take the other half to-go. Do that and you've cut your calorie & fat intake in half! If I make the kids PB&J sandwiches for lunch, I make myself a half sandwich instead of a whole one. Again, instantly cutting calories/fat in half.

My last 6 months at Eagle I took my own food with me to work. It really wasn't a hassle. A couple cans of soup or spaghetti-os in my bag (don't forget the can opener) and a small travel cooler was all I needed, and I could eat for a 4-day trip on what I could bring with me. I'd pack salad (low-fat dressing separate), turkey sandwiches, cheese, PB&Js, etc. To keep the food cold I'd put ice from the carts in double-layered "thank you" bags (the bags we collected trash in on the planes) for my cold packs. I'd change out the ice once or twice a day, replacing the ice from either the carts or ice machines in the hotels.

By taking my own food, I spent SO much less money, and lost weight too. Sure, it took some time to put the food together before trips, but it was worth it. As for carrying an extra bag, it was just small cooler in addition to my rollerbag and kit bag. I never carried a purse to work (PITA to deal with), so having a small cooler wasn't a burden.

(Not sure how the cans of soup and a can opener would go over these days, when I carried them it was pre-9/11.)

Cans and the opener would be fine. It's finding a hotel that has a microwave in which to heat the stuff up that often proved problematic....

Really, I can't think of one hotel that doesn't have a microwave that we can use.

Most hotels then did not have microwaves. I didn't bother or care about heating it up. After a 14 hour, 7-leg day with no breaks for bathroom or food that cold can of spaghetti-os tasted pretty damn good. :)

I pack a cooler and carry most of my own food for a trip. Since Easter I have been doing P90X and have lost over 40 lbs since then. If you follow their diet guide you will be on track with eating healthy and seeing results. In packing my cooler for this next few days I have a few chicken breasts I cooked tonight, I will take some sliced turkey, some carrots, greek yogurt that I mix with Bear Naked Granola, cottage cheese, Beef Jerky, Shakeology, packets of Tuna, and a few apples if I can fit them. I stay away from fast food, most breads, and even beer! I keep my track of everything I eat, and set goals for 50% protien, 30% carbs, and 20% fat. So far its working like a charm. I feel great, and have a ton more energy.

If anyone wants info on P90X or any of the diet stuff send me a message or check out www.beachbodycoach.com/kevin82286

We've got several. Of course, we also stay in a lot of LaQuintas and Quality Inns. They tend to have frigs and microwaves since their budget hotels and cater to people that bring groceries on their road trips. Holiday Inns normally don't have microwaves in the rooms. The one in CLT will let us use the one behind the front desk, but sometimes I just don't want to go down to the lobby to heat my food up. Lazy, I guess.
