Got this email today, thought you guys might find it interesting.

Mesa Pilot Development at San Juan College announced last Friday that the flight
minimums for the PACE program have been lowered to 200 total flight time.
“Mesa plans to hire 600-700 pilot this year alone, said Rich Castle, Chief
Flight Instructor, “we have to get pilots to the company to help meet the
company's needs.

The requirement for a minimum of an associate degree is also being suspended.
Pilots who are interested the opportunity to fly for a regional carrier without
having to build flight time to meet company minimums are urged to apply on-line
for the program at www.flightcareers.com.

Pilots must meet the following requirements:

Option A
200 Total Time
Instrument and Commercial Multi-Engine Certificates
Class I Medical
Acceptable Driving Record
No criminal history

Option B
200 Total Time
Instrument and Commercial Single-Engine Certificates (Multi-Engine Training in
Program)
Class I Medical
Acceptable Driving Record
No criminal history

Training will take 14-15 weeks and includes specialized airline training
designed to meet Mesa's high standards. Students will train in B58 Barons,
attend ground schools in CRJ systems, and receive 40 hours training in the jet
flight training device. Pilots who successfully complete training are
guaranteed an interview for a first officer position with Mesa Air Group.
Placement exceeds 90%.

Interviews are available March 1 and March 15. Please let me know how I can
assist you. Financial aid is available for both the Summer and Fall semesters.

They still can't compete with ATP/Skymates/similar programs...15 weeks after you have your commercial? Why not just instruct? You'd easily meet mins for the entry level regionals at that point, have spent less money, and the biggest bonus of all you DON'T HAVE TO GO TO MESA!!!

This is actually a good sign - not nearly as many people are getting into this biz.

What a difference 7 years makes - when I was doing my private the CFI's leaving for the regionals had 3000 TT and 500 multi - if they were lucky!

Please tell me they get 1,000 hours in that Baron. Unfortunately I don't think that's the case. The other day I told my mom how many hours these new FO's have and she's now freaked out to fly. I wonder what would happen if everybody knew how much flight time their pilot has.

I remember being amazed when this CFI from my local FBO with 3000 hours got hired at Eagle back when I was pre-solo in a 150 (2003).

Please tell me they get 1,000 hours in that Baron.

Depending on how quick the pick it up, generally 5-25 hours. That also depends on if they have a multi before coming in.

1,000 hours in the baron would be pretty expensive, about $250,000 :D.

Ever since I tried to get into Mesa's forum (Mesahub I think?) they have been sending me emails. Never have been allowed into their forum either. lol.

Though I am sure Don would think 3000TT is still too low (Just kiddin buddy:buck: ), I am glad to see it came down a bit, now getting to the other end I agree.

Want to go into business together? We can buy a baron, offer 1,000 hours for $250k with a link on our website to Key Bank and SLM! We'll be filthy RICH!

I think a few people are doing that already. :p

If it is only February, and the regional pilot demand is probably going to increase evn more as the majors start pulling people up again, how bad do you think it will be by the end of the year? I am gonna have to bookmark this and a few other posts.

I hope we actually start seeing pay raises instead of the bar lowering to the bottom (isnt it pretty much there now?)

My other hope is that it really gets so dire that the airlines start subsidizing schools like ATP and the cost drops to like, 20 grand. Hehe.....Hey, one can dream!

Ya' know at some point it seems to me the airlines should drop the ME time requirements and look at pilots with more time in single engine.

Its a hard sell for me to believe a 200 hour pilot with an ME rating has anything over a guy with over 1000+ hours of SE time, especially if a good chunk of that 1000 is dual given.

Some companies already have.

If it worked for James Shaffer, Sam Parker, Randall Harris and John Gardner, it can work for me!

Currently I have 200/100, which makes me eligible for this:

Option A
 • 10 hours of BE-58 Baron training
 • 20 hours in a Baron flight-training device (Frasca 242)
 • 40 hours in the JetSim (20 hours right/20 hours left)
 • Guaranteed interview with Mesa Air Group for a First Officer position upon successful completion of this program.
 • Multi-Engine Ground School and Jet Systems Course
So I could theoretically get an interview at Mesa with 270 hours total time?

Holy-Freakin-Hoo!

What....do I have a reputation or something?

Today I flew with an F/O who I've flown with twice. Both times she brought up she was a street Capt at Gulfstream before UPS. Like she knows I don't like streemers or something. What's up wif dat? Does Yoda have a rep?
