Brakes or Rudders?

I was watching some instructional videos on YouTube on flying. The pilot said he was applying the brakes, and he pushed both rudder pedals in. Is that how you brake, or am I confused?

Also, the plane was a small Cessna (I believe a 172)
 
yes. the rudder pedals move back and forth to move the rudder and you depress the pedals (toe brakes) to apply the brakes. Each pedal controls the brake on that side, so you can use just one or both of them.

Yep,
The brakes are activated by depressing the top of the rudder pedals.

What about toe brakes on the rudder pedals, which can also be actuated by the handle for the dive-brakes?

What about toe brakes where the first few pounds of pressure on the brake isn't really your brake, but rather your nosewheel steering?
 
Why use brakes when you can jump out and break yourself... ha ha? :crazy:
