Well, as of 1330 CST this afternoon my wife an I are officially home owners. I may post some pics once we get the place painted and are all moved in in a few weeks.

Nice, now just wait for something to break and the euphoria to quickly wear out....lol

In my first house the water heater went out after being there 2 weeks. Of course it forced me to learn how to change a water heater.

Congratulations! I bet it feels awesome!
I can't wait 'til we own ours. Only 13 more years to go on the mortgage then we'll be homeowners too.

Congrads!!! Pretty exciting isn't it? One minute you'll be thinking, wow this is wonderful. The next it will be, wtf did we do? lol Enjoy yourselves. This is one of the biggest steps in your life. You will have a great time decorating it, re-doing things (even the PITA things) and it will be yours. I am glad that you and your wife get to spend this Christmas in your new house too! That is cause for a special celebration right there. Break out the champagne and break in a few rooms! lol

So true! My wife and I purchased our first home in September and I've had to visit Home Depot each weekend since. There's a DIY forum that's been a wealth of information.

I don't know if you guys remember the Bob Vila/Norm Abrams show "This Old House", but my father made with watch it with him throughout my youth. It wasn't until recently that I realized the value of that experience.

Your weekends now belong to home depot/lowes. :)

Yeah I guess the thread should have been titled "In debt for the first time in my life." We closed and I left of a 4 day trip. Hoping to get all moved in on my 6 days of next week!

As for Lowes, I spent 3 years working at Lowes while I was in HS/ College until I landed my first CFI gig, Fortunately I still remember a lot. The only thing I really don't feel comfortable doing is electrical... and drywall, but I think I can figure that one out...

Way to go on the house! We bought ours two years ago and now the wife already wants to move north!!! Iowa bound in a year or so!! What can you do..

Now, I don't really get the Texas superiority arguements that residents of the state are fond of, but I did live there for 10 years. But why in the name of god would you want to move from Austin to Iowa. Austin may be on the greatest cities in our country.
