Bose vs Lightspeed vs ??

I would echo the try 'em on advice, except I'd add strong encouragement to fly with each for an hour. I borrowed a buddy's lightspeed one day, after trying them on plenty of times and thinking they felt great. Once airborne, I discovered every time I turned my head, the ear cup on one side would separate from my head a bit and let noise in. Guess I have a weird head, but they were the only headsets I ever wore that did that.

Original Zulus did that if I remember right
Didn't bother me much

Have a pair of Zulus and a pair of Zulu 2. Work fine, fit fine and I like them a lot, but the top layer of the plastic parts turn to this goopy slime after about 3 years no matter how you take care of them.

LS will upgrade your Zulu 2s to 3s for slightly more than a nominal charge.

That's true for the A20s as I didn't realize how much of the ear cup fuzz I was wearing on my ears around the 2 to 3 year mark and how diminished my ear protection was. I'm sure it's similar for other brand headsets as well.

Nah, he means something else I'm guessing
On original Zulus I had the volume controls and black parts by the earcups start "melting" - the plastic itself was getting sticky and yucky.
Shipped them off to Lightspeed, came back with all those pieces replaced

Wait, you live in AK and you're an airline Capt, so surely you meant 185?

I was thinking the same thing )))
There's a lot of things you can do with a 182 actually
We built a fun plane once - pponk the engine, big nosewheel fork STC, 8.50x6 (or 8.00x6, cant remember) nosewheel, and mains (ak bushwheels for the mains optional), with that combo there's an STC for 84" 3-bladed hartzel prop - fun plane.
The new owner eventually added the katmai canard and tips
More room up front than in a 185

I'm breaking the mold! New trend. You saw it here first!

180/185s and Super Cubs are waaaaay overpriced IMO. Im paying a third to half less for more airplane. The 182 is a good compromise for speed and comfort, plus short field capable. Not interested in going anywhere unimproved- too much risk for me.

My wife and kids will all have jobs next summer out in the bush so I need a commuter as well as something I can start teaching whichever kids want to learn to fly in.

Maybe when I've put all three kids through college and my retirement is funded I'll think about getting a big boy toy...

The only other thing to consider is that Lightspeeds aren't TSOed, so no using them at your 121 gig if that kind of thing matters to you.

Do you want to buy a product made in the USA or China? That should settle the Bose vs Lightspeed debate!

Bose is assembeled in Mexico now. The older version of the A20 was assembled in the USA. Lightspeed has one model I believe made in the USA. If you're interested in buying made in the USA stuff and like your bluetooth go David Clark with the Pro-X or One-X.

Well that shows Im behind the times :/ Thanks for the correction!

It's no problem as it was quite sneaky of Bose how they changed it and I recommended the A20s to so many people, until I noticed they changed. I sent my A20s back to Bose on year 4 to get the cable repaired as it was fraying. They sent me the A20 back with a new volume unit and I noticed there was nothing made in USA on it, but made in Mexico written in the unit where previously I'm certain it said assembled in the US. I was curious before that and looked on their website and saw nothing about made in USA anywhere on their site and before it was quite prominent when I bought it years ago. It's still a good headset, but extremely tough to justify the extra $200 over the One-X.

We went to Northern Lights Avionics and picked out her first headset.

Cute kids! I got great advice that has worked well...Take a normal pair of David clarks and put one of those big yellow sponges on top of their head. Wet it, then let it dry so it's soft. Makes em fit perfect and the pictures are even cuter!
Bonus, they get to hear mommy and daddy getting their attention for pictures!

There's no headset on any TCDS on any airliner I'm aware of. Hell any airplane period.

Some company policies say no non TSO headset.

It's real fun teaching uflymike users how to adjust their gain all the time.

"Can you fix that? The background noise is super loud."

"I can't hear it..."

That'd be a policy that has nothing to do with a non-tso headset being legal to use in a 121, or any environment.
