Boots?

Since we were on the subject of "professional" dress, and the fashion police weighed in.

Are boots appropriate with the airline pilot uniform?

I say yes as long as they are solid color in a plain style like a black roper.

What about a SWAT style black boot? I'm not sure I can fly in anything other than boots but I don't think they will let me get away with that next week.

Monochrome Chuck Taylors baby, yeah.

look like boots

I say it all depends on the airline and their FOM. If they are allowed then go for it. Hell, I know a lot of guys at CAL that wear custom made cowboy boots. I'll stick with my ultra comfortable Ecco's.

I have a pair of Tony Lamas I wear for work. Canada security looks at me funny and so do some folks I work with, but man are they comfortable!

I think even Sporty's sells a Tony Llama black roper.

I see many pilots wearing them on my travels. As long as they aren't mud-encrusted and they're shined, I think they look fine.

I wore Chucks of various styles for probably 2 of my 5 years of flight training/instructing. They are EXCELLENT flying shoes.

I wear a pair of Tony Lamas also. I was wearing them the night we went to dinner, not sure if you noticed them. Our company is very strict on professional attire and I've received nothing but positive feedback on them.

Alex.

+1...I have a nice pair of black cowboy boots that I'd wear at Horizon, had not one word said about them in a negative way.

I have a pair of Laredos I've had since college (15+ years). They are THE most comfortable pair of footwear I own, hands down.

My current pair of Justin boots have survived four different flying jobs with no complaints.

Too bad I have to wear my other pair while these are in for a little "heeling" and "sole saving". :D

I started wearing mine when the heel separated from my J&Ms...they're way more comfortable.

All the FAs get get cute and say "You must've been DFW based." I say "No, these aren't cowboy boots. Cowboy boots aren't allowed."

After the blank stare, I add "These are vertical enhancers." ;)

Sure, I can't see why not.

Lots of my co-workers wear them!

Can't be any worse than my "looks like a shoe, feels like a bunny slipper fresh from the dryer" Doc Martens.

+4, the black cowboy boots I have owned for about six or so years, well broken in are epically comfortable and look good with slacks. (I forget what my brand is - I'll look. They have non-skid, oil resistant soles, too.)

Cowboy hats on the other hand...
