Boeing may stop making the 737?

I was under the impression that there was a "Next Generation" 737 model that was rolling off the line now or is destined to in the near future.....

I'm sure I'll catch slack for this, but the 737 is like a Ford Taurus with a really big engine and a gold kit.

There's the -100/200, then there's everything else in that family..........-500 is kind of neat too.

With more than 6,000 ordered, I'd say it's the workhorse of the fleet. I think it was a pretty successful airplane. Better than those fancy French Airbus thingys...........:D (chants U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A)

They've been talking about this for years... and now just threatening to do it. We'll see what happens, I bet a successful composite replacement will have to be established before we see the plug pulled on the 737.

They seem to be cranking out 737NGs all the time for new customers, so unless they have some spectacular replacement in mind I'd say the 737 program still seems to be in full swing. I mean how many does AA alone have on order? A few hundred right?

737s stopped being cool when they weren't putting gravel kits on em', they stopped going to Dutch Harbor, and they stopped emitting black smoke. Now granted, it usually pays pretty well to drive one, so I wouldn't turn it down, but I'd much rather fly the slippery rockets that NAC has than the 737-800s or whatever that AS has.

727, now that's a machine.

Ohh, and so I don't sound like a complete and total bushrat d-bag, the 787 is awesome, just because of how damn efficient it is. Everything I've read about it seems cool enough to justify a case of SJS.

Any plane that makes me stop what ever conversation I am having is a winner in my book.

Working the ramp on the -200s is awesome. Ear plugs+ear muffs are still not enough.:bandit:

There was talk a while back of the "yellow stone" project with Y1 being the 120-180 seat Y2 (787), and Y3...

They will have a replacement for the 737 (y1) not just drop it. I think the future will depend on the success or failure of the technologies and manufacturer processes of the 78... The next would be the Y1, and since the 747-800 is coming off the line, expect the Y3 to come last. Knowing how companies changes plans with the micro & macro economic circumstances this Yellowstone is probably OBE and may not be the current plan. Boeing has canx several high profile projects (SST, Sonic Cruiser, 747X) in the past.

Airbus, with their government subsidies has been able to take 25 yrs to finally fly the A400M just up the street from where I am. I believe I actually saw it on its maiden or 2nd flight. There is still talk of canceling it.

All I know is I hope whatever they do they still build planes in Renton. That community depends on Boeing.

You just A.net'd him.

(I hate it when people get it wrong as well)

Got to see the -8 fly last week when I was out there visiting the ladyfriend. Pretty impressive.

Wasn't the intent, I just hate seeing it wrong as well.

Lucky guy I would say, seems like everyone can make it out to SEA but I. Love that freakn' place.
