Boeing said on Wednesday it had achieved tentative deals with 12 customers to sell about 200 of its new 7E7 jets.

"We have 12 additional accepted proposals," Randy Baseler, vice president for marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, told reporters in London. Baseler explained that proposal acceptance entailed airlines paying Boeing a refundable deposit and initiating talks towards firm orders.

The twin engined 7E7 Dreamliner is due to enter service in 2008.

European rival Airbus is working on the larger four-engined A380 due in 2006, with seating for over 800 in some configurations.
