Blue Angels question

Hey guys, I was just wondering, does anyone know how much do they charge (they DO charge right?) for admission to see the Blue Angels?

I'm asking here because their main site has been down for a couple of weeks, if I'm not wrong.

They're coming over to Calverton, NY on May 29-30, and am very interested in going to see them

That all depends on what air show it is. I've been to free airshows with the Blue Angels, and I've heard of Air Shows that cost $50 with the Blue Angels. All depends!!

Yeop depends on the show, but some of the best views I ever got at an airshow i wasnt on the field.
 
I know with the Red Arrows you can request them to make an overfly with smoke on, and if they are in the air, and local they will do it. The trick is timing your event, when you know they are due to fly over for a military airshow.

The Blues don't charge for thier shows, they are funded as part of the recruiting and retention for the Navy. What cost money is the airshow operators charging to cover the cost of the insurance they have to carry. Insurance is the number one reason there are fewer airshow than there used to be. Most old airshows can't even get the insurance and if they could they couldn't afford it. It's our ( society ) own fault.

Blue Angels just did a show in my hometown of Beaufort, SC (MCAS Beaufort). Heard the show was a success. Wish I could have made it but had to work. You can never see them enough!

Price of Admission: FREE

What was always better was watching the show in your front yard with an active F/A-18 pilot telling you what they are doing and how as they are doing it. You can learn a thing or two there.
 
I remember when I was 7 years old I saw the blue angels put on an airshow at Jacksonville NAS for their 50th anniversary, I believe. We had the best seat in the house... on a ski boat on the St. John's river right outside the base.... of course, cost of admission was free.

One of the secrets I've learned is that sometimes they do pre-shows in nearby places.

For example, a few years ago the Thunderbirds were scheduled to do a show at Hanscom AFB outside of Boston. Since the airspace around Boston is so congested, they went the day before up to New Hampshire and did their warm-up there, so we got a free show out at Pease and got to see them up close without all the crowds.

With New York in a similar situation, I'd look to see if they are doing any practice at any of the nearby locations right before a big show.

If it's a smaller airport (like Punta Gorda in Florida), they sometimes fly in a couple of days early. They use the extra days for a couple of "practice runs."
 
Go hang around El Centro (California) Naval Air Facility during the off-season, and you'll get your fill of Blue Angels flying.
 
I'll see them this Saturday (May 1) at the Ft. Lauderdale Air & Sea Show, frying out on the beach all day.

Don't know if the Blue Angels will be performing at it, but the Andrews show I go to is free.

I always thought the shows were cool, but man, after learning about flying, I think it's so much more cool.

When I went in '02, it was INSANELY busy. Most of the people that were going to the show were inconsiderate and rude, but I chalk that up to the heat mostly. A lot of people didn't plan ahead and staked out spots on the water edge at 11 AM. Those same people started yelling at us when we refused to move back to make room for them. We couldn't move back since there were about 400 people behind US! I couldn't get down to the water or off the beach, so I was pretty much trapped. Finally, my wife and I decided to just step over people to get the hell out of there. Sad part was, we didn't even stay until the end b/c we were so frustrated with the airshow patrons.

Now, the show itself rocks. Top name acts, and more than likely they'll have a carrier group out on the water. The Eisnehower was out there when I was there. Navy and Marines did a simulated SAR/beach invasion to kick the show off. LOTS of military jets, but we skipped out before the BAs. Heard them from the hotel, though.
