Blue Angels.....entertaining article

they want us to die because we have been pushing so hard on them, Conflict resolution has to start before the killing and before the embargos and before youhurt the other person involved. Once you start doing that sort of stuff, the whole point of conflict resolution is defeated...you have to start when there is a conflict of interests, before it escalates. If you kill a person's family(and i'm not talking terrorists, i'm talking regular people), that person is going to be super pissed and want to kill you. All that "collateral damage" from the bombings? if anyone survived from their families i betcha they are part of the terrorists going after our military. Lets be honest, if someone killed your entire family, you'd be madder than hell and want to kill them.

as far as the military being portrayed as thugs and whatnot, I'll be honest, I get a bit freaked out when I see a dude in fatigues (or other uniform) walking around with a gun in his posession. What is stopping this guy from flipping out and killing a bunch of people? But again, i feel that way about all people that carry guns (including cops)

[Oh, don't get me wrong...I don't agree with that wench. I've a few four and five-letter words for her. Like I said, school isn't the place to push that crap. However, neither is praise of the 'nobility' of war.

[ QUOTE ]

It's pure propoganda, and a real slap in the face to military personnel past and present and what America has stood for over the centuries.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know about that one...I'm proud to have served, and hearing about people thinking in ways that I completely disagree with make me happy!! That's why I wore the uniform!!

The KKK is a sick, twisted organization. However, as long as they stay within the boundaries of the law, I'd put my life on the line defending their right to think whatever they want about me. That's something worth fighting for.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I 'm not sure we disagree too much. My problem remains teaching young children that the American military is about murdering civilians. Pushing that point of view on them. It's not factual which is a problem in a classroom situation. It is the lowest type of propoganda to me, but that's an opinon.

Teaching about the sacrifice of Americans in wars is not teaching about the "nobility" of war. It is teaching history.

Feel even more strongly about that today after spending an hour talking to a paratrooper from WWII who joined when he was 15 and had a brother that was a Marine in the pacific for the whole conflict,. To that teacher, these men were killers and I can't quite stomach that.

Well we definitely are on opposite ends of this one.

BTW, since you are so flipped out by people carrying guns, how about if someone decides to crash into you with their car? Or grab that steak knife there and plant it in your forehead? Or turn on the gas while you are in bed? Or dive the airplane you are riding in into the ground? Or pull up a truck load of fertizlizer next to your building and atomize you? Or push you over that guardrail? Or run you off the road? Or just knock the [censored] out of you?

Just trying to point out how riduclous gun hysteria is. If you want to see how well taking away guns does, check out Great Britain. They put in their toughest controls about 5 years ago. Gun violence has been going up ever since. You will only be in trouble when the only people carrying guns are the criminals.

I would like to take a minute to say that while i was in elementry school the gulf war was going on. I don't really remember too much about it other than we made valentines for the soliders and put candy and gum in them.

A while back I made a post and mentioned that we should have a department of peace. A department whose sole purpose was to try to avert war. A department that would try every means to keep everyone alive before anyone is killed. People went crazy at the notion!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

We did have a department of Peace. It was called Strategic Air Command. (may it rest in peace).

[/ QUOTE ]

Not quite. They want us to die simply because we're different from them, and have different values. Their hatred for anything not "them" wasn't manifested by us; it's been drilled into those that are extremists on their side. Extremism is extremism, be it our side or theirs.

All great ideas in theory, Ski, but in real world practice, unless everybody plays by the same playbook, this just won't happen. And in most of history, this hasn't happened. Don't get me wrong, I wish it could, but the reality of human infallibility on all sides makes this concept a near impossibility.

[/ QUOTE ]

Collateral damage has been going back and forth so much that no one is able to keep score anymore. Our collateral damage, now there's "their" collateral damage that they're doing right now in Iraq, there was "our" collateral damage in Desert Storm, there was "their" collateral damage in Beirut 1983, etc, etc, etc, etc. We're where we are here and now, whether anyone likes it or not, and we can't go back. We're to the point where we have to see this to the end, and it's either do that, or die, unfortunately.

Now what's the problem with guys in uniform? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

BTW, people, what about the Blue Angels getting their names dragged through the mud?

Is my own thread going to end up getting locked? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ah yes, peace is always the first casualty of war. Funny that everything but the tanker assets now belong to Air Combat Command--and ACC makes no bones about it, they're not about preserving the peace, they're about kickin a$$ and taking names!

Yeah. Old Mobility Command has been left with the tankers and transports. I still think they should've kept MAC. Sounded better hearing "MAC 215" on the radio instead of "Reach 2317" nowdays

I'm with you MikeD. When SAC stood down I was ready to run naked in the streets. (Come on everybody, we're streaking!!!!) I was surprised how few people saw it as a big event.

On the other hand it did (by the skin of it's teeth, according to some cold-war stories) manage to protect us from attack. (Fortunately we didn't get into a mineshaft race).

Of course the department of peace, Kucinich not withstanding, is the State Department. This is their job, to work behind the scenes, to broker deals, to find out just what the heck those guys are so upset about. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I just don't see who you would "conflict resolve" with now.

One of the largely unreported events is that Isreal is winning their war. The jihad against them is running out of steam and attacks have been dropping tremendously in the last few months. For one the jihadists have lost the backing of peoople like Saddam and for two, the Palestinian people are just sick of it. They've figured out that when the suicide attacks stop, the attacks by Isreal stop.

I see the problem really well here: until we really understand the enemy we'll never be able to win this war. Flyover and Mike, I've got a lot of respect for ya'll but I don't think the reasons you stated are why they are coming after us. If you want my side of the story, PM me and we'll discuss it. Otherwise we're not even going to be able to continue this one because there is a major disagreement about this stuff at the absolute root of the problem. I'd be glad to continue this one, but not in the general topics forum.

Cheers

all my background is in business but I decided last year to go back and get a master's in education to someday teach at the college level if flying doesn't work out... BUT.. what is amazing to me is the mindset of some of the teachers I have met who are like the one in that blue angels article...

granted.. I completely agree with everyone who sides with the pacifist approach at first simply because good conflict resoultion can eliminate alot of headaches ... but the reality is as we pointed out sometimes more drastic action, in this case a war, occasionally has to take place.

A great example is every so often I'll have a new student walk into my class and want to being kung fu lessons.. I say great.. what are you goals.... etc.. just trying to get a scoop on the guy ... " Conflict Resolution.. I wanna be able to kick the *&^% outta people.." To take the other side of the argument in this case why be so aggressive ??? there is no need in most situations...

the flip side... the military to me is there to be utilized and is around for a reason... not to sound harsh or come off as a total jerk but the first thing I would ask those protesting for a peaceful resolution is to go sit down at a table or visit someone like those terrorists who intend to do harm to other cultures or races for the survival of their cultural beliefs... I'd like to see how those " peacefull " negotiations go.

We wouldn't have had to resolve any conflict - there was none between Iraq and the U.S.

I can't believe that teacher....If I every caught a teacher teaching that crap to my kid I am not sure what I would do besides coming unglued.

I definately would be her worst nightmare /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/argue.gif
