Ok, the blog's partially updated.

For those of you who were following my training evolution at 767 Flight Training and the first day of IOE or so, well, since I'm technically no longer at the 'schoolhouse', I've started a new one at Life east of “30 West”

But it's only the first day of the trip at this point. I'll try and write more tomorrow and as the next TOE starts to Madrid and back.

Wow! I really dig the new blog Dough! It helps me keep things in perspective and not get burned out. BTW, what do you think your average month will be like like now? e.g. number of trips and days off?

Sometimes I question my longevity in this career, but that write up just helped me hang on a litte tighter :)
 
I totally know how you feel about the French Controllers.. I work with French Air Traffic Controllers here in Djibouti... Their grasp on the English Language here is nill. But they're great guys.

Congrats on the flight.. sounded like a blast.. cant wait till I cross the pond again on my return home....
 
I did the same thing considering the extreme hassle i had to go to get to the airport on Saturday...but my blog isn't in a blog, it's just on my forum

it gives an entirely different perspective if you ever have family or friends travel with you.
 
I really never posted about reading your blogs, Doug, but I just wanted to say Thanks for writing them. It keeps the motivation up and cool to see someone transitioning to such and large aircraft and what all that entails.

Really good stuff Doug. Although, I was wondering how did you get to do international instead of domestic trips so quickly. Is it based on seniority, or just pilot preference?

My airline has the international and domestic category split.

You can bit "767" which is domestic 757/767 flying, or "767ER" which is 767-300ER flying to Europe, Africa and South America. We're getting about 18 757 "ER's" from American so I might have some 757 flying into the mix on some of the short-haul Euromarkets like Great Britain.
 
you dont think you will use the 75ers for south american trips? i thought loads were pretty strong going to europe especially britain.

Loads are crazy to/from Europe, especially since the dollar is cheaper than toilet paper.

The US line was virtually empty in immigration and the Non-US line was packed to the gills in CVG a few days ago.

I think what they're looking at, and remember it's the airline business so nothing that happens makes true common sense, but I think they're looking at putting the 757ER's on routes like Edinburgh, Shannon, Glasgow and moving those 767ER's to the hotter, more profitable routes deeper in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

So Doug, if you wanted to, can you bid 767 domestic for one month and bid 767ER for another one so you can mix it up a bit. Or is it all 767 international stuff?
 
All 767 international. I don't think I have the ability to pick up domestic trips as far as I know.
 
And if you guys have any questions, feel free to throw 'em at me. I might not know the answer off the bat because I'm factory fresh out of the schoolhouse, but you never know!
 
So does that mean that Hawaii (HNL & OGG) counts as Domestic then?

Actually, it involves an ocean crossing for an extended period of time so it's considered "international".

But you're still on published airways so the workload is a lot lower than Trans-Atlantic.
