Bird strike

Word is this Learjet recycled a turkey vulture this morning at Buffalo Niagara (KBUF) during take-off. Incredible timing on the photo.

731 is a reliable engine, it's not tough and if monitored properly it only occasionally makes TBO, it's certainly not known for its ability to ingest birds.

Looks to me like it hit the leading edge of the right wing, maybe just outboard of the right landing gear, rather than through the engine. From the photo anyway.

I was driving in the country today and a buzzard was feasting on some small road kill. It took off when I approached, and tried to carry it's breakfast with it. The bird lost its grip, and meat bombed my rental car.

It was gross.

At least it was a rental car?

In Tasmania, the crows were the only animals who went after road kill that were smart enough to leave one of their own to watch the road while the others ate. Every other animal seemed to be completely content to get run over itself, as long as it was enjoying its meal when it happened.

NW NJ has the highest density of white tail deer in the lower 48. They actively try to kill themselves by running into you. I’ve hit 2 deer and have had 4 hit me by running into the side of my vehicle.

Northern Virginia was like that. Driving home at dusk was like hauling ass through a petting zoo.

This. When I lived in VA, the deer population was out of control, and they refused to allow hunters to cull the population.

I was getting something touched up at a body shop and we were walking around the building, and in a line were no less than a dozen wrecked cars. Every single one had hit a deer (some multiple) and all were totaled out. Talking with the shop manager, these were wrecks from just that month.

I see deer out and about in the day time now. Something you’d never, ever see in the past.

Word to the wise if you ride at dusk/early morning. Those road demons ain't none too smart, and what's an inconvenient insurance claim on your truck can be a fatality for a motorcycle.

You live in FL, right? We see em' all the time down at my Dad's place in SRQ. Day or night.

They have been culling here - out at Winchester they've finally gotten serious about the deer after a couple of airplanes had deer strikes during night landings. In the last two years I've been teaching I know of three very expensive collisions. I personally do NOT do night landings with students there anymore.

They also did some culling in Rock Creek Park. Had a bunch of folks up in arms (no pun intended) but eventually the deer lost. I think.

Maybe big collision repair lobby was fighting against allowing more hunting
