Biggest POS You've Ever Flown

I flown some dumpsters but Id have to hand the award to a particular Duchess. This thing was a POS from the outside to the inside. Thankfully the engines worked but nothing else did. I was having this conversation with a good friend who is an RJ captain. He told me some insanity about some of the POSes at his place. Whats the biggest POS you've flown?

It was a Duchess--but I do not blame the aircraft.
 
I've flown quite a few 55's, and there was one I flew which was especially crappy. I was almost to V1 speed taking off at Midway and the entire 65 pound instrument panel fell onto my shins. I mean literally the whole dash fell out. All 7 camlock screws had broken or stripped out. I had to have the other guy taxi in because I couldn't move my legs or feet to steer. There were plenty of other problems too, I never had a flight in that thing where something didn't go wrong. Freaking N95WK.

40+ year old Cherokee 6 with nearly 16000 hours. For some unidentifiable reason it's 10 knots and several hundred FPM slower than every other airplane in the fleet, no matter how many times the engine and prop have been changed. Also the entire airplane creaks and squeaks in turbulence.
Second place is that Duchess tiredcfi posted about... 57RT aka RattleTrap aka RoachTrap aka RottenTrash etc...

Anyone weight it? I've seen performance reductions between same make and model airplanes because the airplane has put on some weight over it's life. Avionics, dirt, etc... One plane I fly that spends a fair amount of time in the Bahamas had the interior carpet replaced. The old carpet weighed 20 pounds more than the new because of all the sand in it.

Yeah, Tim kind of insisted. I want the Midwest anyways for now. Was going to be going to Lubbock TX, but the guy in Hastings is trying to leave and interviewed somewhere when I started training. Waiting for him to hear back. We're gonna rotate around with me taking Broken Bow if/when he leaves. IF this happens. We're going on 2 months now of the guy waiting to hear back. TDYed in Buffalo for a bit, but now I'm back.

Duchess N57RT. It was like flying a wet dog, always had the shakes...

There was an AMF Navajo that I flew where one of the engines would smoke on every departure.

The worst was a duchess I flew. Tons of stuff that should have been found long before I flew it. Stuff like a leak in the door seal allowing water to flow on to electrical lines and cause about and inch of water in the floor. Half the circuit breakers were bypassed. Random live wires that connected to nothing. One of the engines would spike on oil pressure/temperature every once in a while and a quick mag check would fix the issue. Corrosion found after opening the plane up. Heater never worked. The thing was a mess.

Duchess at flight school. Doors popping open at every opportunity and the baggage had inch wide gaps top and bottom even when closed. Radio failures, engine failures, I don't think there was a flight when everything worked. Most of the students wouldn't fly it, but often that meant it was the only one flying.

It's probably still flying.

Considering that Beech only built just over 400 of em (according to Wikipedia anyway) the Duchess is amazingly over-represented in this thread...
 
At 9e it's the "Memphis belle". If you don't treat her nice she gets very angry. We also have 8888D, she's pretty "high maintenance" as well. Known as "crazy 8's" and the "old lady" they take things in a purely negative fashion. Not cool for a "last turn".
 
What I flew in the fleet, the C-2A(R) Greyhound. It was truly a thunder pig, a Grumman product. Tough as nails but the cockpit ergo's were poor, it took many mnx hours to keep it flying, it handled like a dog, lights, systems (AFCS, wx radar, prop sync, etc) either constantly failed or didn't work ever, etc.

A certain Cutlass I have flown just flies completely sideways. It takes a fair amount of left aileron to keep it going straight at all times. Also has had all sorts of weird electrical problems (cycle the gear and the alternator goes offline is a common one) and has had a few fuel leaks in the 3 years or so that I have been flying it now.
 
On a recent sortie in the F-15E, we were practicing some negative-g bunts to test the negative side of the envelope. During one of the bunts, an entire electrical box floated up from the left console. Its normally bolted in so that the switch panel is flush with a bunch of other panels.. When pulling back into parking, the crew chief asked "You called back Code 3 TEWS (the EW box that floated out)..what's up with that?" I lifed up the box up and showed him. He replied "Oh...it shouldn't do that."
 
This, THIS is why aerial survey is pretty valuable experience! :D Which vender? AAs older M models were properly crappy(looking).

I worked for LAI. I remember seeing AA on the road a few times, and I would have gladly traded for a crappy looking airplane. My airplane had pretty fresh paint on it, so it looked nice. Too bad it spent many hours showing off that paint job while sitting in various MX shops around the country. Had they invested in a better engine/avionics instead of paint my season would have been MUCH better. After the 2nd engine issue they finally replaced the whole engine, and in the closing weeks of the season they put a new radio in.

I honestly thought it was going to be simply time building for 7 months. It was so much more than that. There were 3 honest to god moments during that season that for the first time in my flying career, I thought I was going to be landing off airport. And the engine eating valves weren't those times.

I don't think it's the airplane's fault. With a choice of Seminole or Duchess, the Duchess seems to be the budget option, and so they tend to end up at schools motivated by the bottom line.
 
for me it would have been a GO in A-Stan ... who had the nerve to complain that because of unexpected headwinds he was going to have to hurry and repack for his trip home to the states for Christmas ... I was flying him to Kuwait to catch his ride home for the holidays ... he also pulled the "date of Rank" card on another GO to commandeer an extra seat for one of his staffers. Just a bad day for him I'm sure, but we saw the grumpy side.
