How many of you airline pilot guys really kick the tires on a regular basis....?

I'm praying Denzel Washington doesn't "kick the tires" in the new movie FLIGHT. Because this Big Bird meets pilot video really made me ponder on the public's perception of commercial pilots.

Denzel's character, if I recall correctly, is a Captain.

What, precisely, would he be doing walking around the airplane again?

There are plenty of times that I do a walk around as a captain.

FO is going to be late showing, has to run to catch a commute, or I just want to get out of my seat and walk around for a few minutes.

Besides... as captain, the pre and post flight walk arounds are ultimately my responsibility.
