This is what I'm doing and it seems to cover the material well but obviously takes a lot of time...
1. Follow the PTS Line by Line subject by subject and go down the list.
2. Take the next item on the list. Let's say Aeormedical Factors
3. Read the handbook of aeronautical knowledge and highlight info
4. Then I use the ASA guide to quiz myself. Usually I find that I retained very little which is discouraging but then I keep practicing the questions and I'm finally able to get my brain in gear.
5. Then I read this book called CFI Prep guide by James D. Kelly. This guy was an FAA inspector for a long time and so I like to read his thoughts on what he was looking for on each topic.
6. I create a brief lesson plan with motivation, objective, completion standars, common errors and references.
This is the process I'm using for the Technical subject areas of the PTS. The manuevers I'm not bothering with lesson plans and instead practicing my "routine" or "script" or whatever you want to call it.
So that's how I'm doing it. Hope it helps you out.
