Best place for actual and getting buff...

Ok, here's a strange question: I know all of the locations have their advantages, but I've narrowed it to some important figures:

1. Max Amount of flyable IFR
2. Gym available for getting buff and destressing
3. Where to meet the most amount people, preferrably in the 18-25 age range? <don't interpret this question please!>

Which ATP locations would be best for this stuff?

Jax would probably be the best place. You might get themost actual at some other location but I am sure jax ranks around the top 5 ATP locations to get it.

Question # 2. I cant speak for other locations but the apartments in Jax have a small work out facility with racquetball court, treadmills, some nautillus machines and some free weights. But a good number of students get membership at World gym which is just around the corner from the housing. I think they offer an ATP special. World gym is one of the nicest facilities i have seen.

Question #3. By far jax has the most career pilots. They have about 10 apartments filled with students and instructors and they all have a good time when they get a chance to go out.
At the other locations, people are there so they can be closer to home. So after school, they all have their own lives. At jax people are only there for flight training. So they dont have other things to attend to. Jax people hang out with each other. did that make any sense?

So i would choose jax. good luck

The apartments at Jax have a decent workout facility and hot tub. Both are very helpful in, ahem, meeting people. Jax is a fun group.

You will likely get some actual regardless of where you train. The XC phase will send you across the country and you will certainly encounter most of the weather you only read about in the Jepp books.

I would think judging from your comments, sounds like you need to be hitting up an online dating service rather than worrying about getting buff at flight school.

If you're looking for IMC, try Portland. Mostly low clouds -- excellent for approaches. Starts to clear up in June/July timeframe, so don't wait too long. Summers in Portland offer the best weather in the whole USA.

Portland is a satellite locations, offering the flexible Career Pilot Program. Flexible means you setup a schedule (anywhere from 90 days to 10 months).

We don't have apartments. You'll have to add $$ for a place to say, but you'd get a room to yourself which is a big plus.

yes portland is very nice indeed in the summer. The ATP is actually in Salem, which is not too far from Corvallis (a big college town)

hey craig, are you still doing anything at columbia?

yeah sorry... thanks for the help. I hope it didnt seem out of line, but being in this hick area is giving me a case of cabin fever. The last person to hit on me was, well, a transvestite.

But primarily the IFR stuff was top priority. I imagine after looking closely at the manassas ATP, there's no free time so I'll probably go into a shell for three months to emerge a CFII hero.

There is free time in the ACPP, it just comes without notice and unplanned. Whether you choose to spend that free time in North VA or on the beach at Jax or Stuart is your choice....

I was based out of Stuart but spent at least 3 weeks away, 2 in Jax and one in Manassas.

if you want to fininsh the program in less that 90 days can you choose to use the free time to get ahead? what it the absolute fastest anyone has ever finished the program?

Depending on your start date, Sacramento can have consistent and *extremely* flyable IFR. Sometime in November, we start getting nice thick fog layers that slowly clear out by, say, noon. You can basically just pick how high you want ceilings and fly then. There are plenty of airports in the Sierra foothills that stay VFR consistently for alternates. It's not the best for getting enroute IMC, but it's awesome for approaches.

And in the summer, the bay area often has good marine layer.

No, time off just comes a day or so at a time due to weather, schedules, checkride schedules moving, etc. I think someone did the program in around 75 days, but that's only 2 weeks less and I'd prefer a day or two here and there to study and prep for CFI school.

I think the record is 59 days set by Socal. and paul is right about the days off. It just happens. you really cant plan for them. so enjoy them and use them wisely.

Try Seattle for great actual! My student Career Pilot who just passed his instrument ride already has more actual than most instructors from the Southwest.

im attending stuart, which is where i think socal went. i am hopeing to have an intership lined up with asa for this fall and that is why i am wanting to get through as fast as possible. my start date is may 31 so i need to do all i can to finish early, while at the same time haveing enough time to fully comprehend the material of coarse.

Yeah as someone said, the Portland location is actually in Salem, which is about an hour south of Portland. I tell them that every time I go by there, but they still call it Portland!
