Best FSDO?

Yeh planning ahead, I have 2 options, continue with current career and so fly once a year to maintain currency (my riddle teaching will pay for those trips). Or take Amercan Flyers up on their offer and teach with them for 1000 hours (sabbatical, pay cut etc).

I like the idea of the FSDO, but the FAA still need to be able to get my Cert here. Best to choose one carefully if I need to visit.

Whatever you decide, call ahead for an appointment. It's an unhappy fact that FSDO's are not as open to the public as they were just a few years ago. You don't want to make a trip and find out they only work by appointment.
 
No worries, I always plan ahead, no FAA office in London anymore, so have to go further afield.
 
Always had good dealings with the Seattle FSDO, great location to see the Boeing factory tour and Museum of Flight as well.
 
OKC FSDO is pretty nice. The people are mostly OK. lol, well it's kind of hit or miss as the turnover is pretty high. But it IS in a nice area. Within easy walking distance of the office is both a Waffle House AND a Christie's Toybox.
 
With everything on IACRA these days do CFI certs even touch the FSDO when issued? I know (some) will designate you a choice of DPEs to take the ride with, but do they get involved in the processing, I guess not...

I know if you do the online refresher thing to renew it you have to take it in to the fsdo to get the new cert issued. Ok, yeah some of the places will do it for you, but I'll be damned if I am going to pay 10s of dollars for something I can do myself.
 
You could see how many different and incorrect ways the different FSDOs want you to renew your certificate.

This is a good point. Given the differing ways each goes about the CFi initial (some don't recognise the CFiI initial from other FSDOs, some give you a choice of 2 DPEs, ORL FSDO reduces each XC flight time by .3 as you arent over 50 nm in that time), is there any guidance?
 
To put it in longhand

1. The S Florida FSDO is happy for you do do CFII as the initial, Du Page is not.
2. Busy FSDOs use DPEs for the initial, others don't.
3. When Orlando FSDO adds up XC time they believe your real XC time is lower than listed as you have to fly outside of the locality to meet the 50nm requirement and so reduces your time accordingly.

Just interested if someone keeps track of all these 'differences'

That doesn't make any sense though...outside of the locality? Are you saying they are not acknowledging all of someone's cross country time, because they feel like someone would have to actually fly cross country time to log cross country time?

Is there something about Orlando that prevents...well, cross countries?

My FSDO is more than 90 miles from my house. $10 goes a long way.
