Best ATP Location?

Is there a favored or best ATP location?

And, if I can swing the 90 day program, would I be substantially better off than if I did the self-paced?

Reason I ask is my local ATP base does not offer the 90 day. I could either live locally and try to expedite it, but I'm considering packing my bags and knocking the program out in 90 days. I'd be leaving the family at home, so I'd only do the 90 days if the program/location is substantially "better."

Don't know too much about the East coast ATP's but Pheonix has a good career program. I also heard Atlanta was decent.

Oh yeah, obviously there won't be any messing around in Jacksonville with all the high ups always around.

ATL was good. Nice facility and new sim. I would stay out of Jax if you can. It's like walking on egg shells around there.:)

Well. I've been to a few locations. Daytona is really nice. New apartments and a large office but still getting things tightened down. Atlanta is pretty nice, same sim as DAB and tons of planes (oh and they do tower visits). Jax is like walking on egg shells. The apartments in Jax are nasty and they are short on aircraft (as of right now). Raleigh was small but nice. Busy airport with lots of commercial traffic and pretty nice apartments. Stuart is also small but very laid back (same sim as DAB and ATL) never saw the apartments though.

I did the atp written in dallas. It was the only ATP I have ever been inside of, it was decent but very small.

How is KRAL?
The IE yeah yeah!
Nothing like white trash so cal style, meth fiends all around, but hey, im from the OC.

p.s. note to self, don't post after "beverages".

For those of your recomending against the Jax location- did you actually have a bad experience there or are you saying to avoid it because something you heard second hand?

I actually had a bad experience there during my cross countries. My above option is based on places I overnighted during my cross countries.

Bowling Green KY was alright also. Apartments were on par but not a lot of students/instructors there.

It all depends on the type of person you are. If you like lots of structure, 8-5 everyday then Jax is for you. On your cross countries you will be coming to Jax anyways unless you are out west. There are two sets of apartmentments at Jax and Danforth is pretty bad but the word is that the hammer is coming down across the board about keeping up the apartments.

Stuart is laid back, about 2 miles from the towered airport, close to a lot of stores & resturaunts. But it's small and harder to get a spot in.

Dallas & Atlanta is nice in that you get to fly in and out of really busy airspace on a regular basis. Dallas seems to have more students and instructors than anywhere else I have seen. It has more female students & instructors as well as the newer planes. So for the ladies if you want a female instructor Dallas and Atlanta are the places.

Has anyone gone to Seattle or Portland?

I will be returning from overseas (IZ) in about two months and after being out of GA flying for 15 yrs (going to work at getting current and see where things go from there...

Not yet but I'm about to...maybe. I might be doing the self paced program in Seattle or Portland starting in April. Probably Seattle if I decide to go the ATP route. I hate Salem (Portland).

The apartments at Jax can be nice if people would take care of them. They are starting to drop the hammer on keeping the apartments clean. They just had all of the apartments professionally cleaned not to long ago. In my opinion they expect people to clean up after themselves, but not everybody does.

Overall I think that Jax location isn't all that bad. Yes there are the "big wigs" around, but if your doing what you are supposed to, then what is the big deal. Nobody is walking around looking to rip somebody's head off. That being said, all of the locations should be somewhat equal. So you should get about the same experience at any location. Yes there will be some differences, but mostly the same.
