Bah, your windows don't open! They are awesome.
From the home page of Jetcareers:Before anyone wastes anymore time on this........he's a junior in high school. Would have been better if he would have just introduced himself and been upfront about that.

I agree with @SteveC, I wish I would've had a resource like JC at his age. Back then the internet was something that was in movies like War Games. If a young person with no knowledge of a particular industry is doing their due diligence investigating it mocking them seems like frat boy hazing. From the home page of Jetcareers:
"There are plenty of commercial sources of information about careers in aviation, however I saw a need for a source of information made by professional pilots for future pilots and others that are interested in a "behind the scenes" perspective."
I think I understand where you are coming from - that we could better tailor our responses if we knew his background, but unfortunately your post could be interpreted as implying that he shouldn't post this kind of question at all based on his current position in life. At least that is what I got out of it the first time I read it, and I would tend to disagree with that premise.
Did you read what I posted above? He doesn't even have a PPL. Contemplating a move to which airline is a long damn time frame off don't you think? I would think he would have other priorities, other steps to take into account, hills to climb and could have been honest about that so that the advice give would actually relevant/tailored to his current stage in life. That is my point. It has nothing to do with mocking, it does have to do with reality and what would actually be pertinent/more useful advice for him.I agree with @SteveC, I wish I would've had a resource like JC at his age. What do you think is the best airline to be a pilot for?
What I am saying is that it is deceptive to not be forthright, introduce yourself and be honest about who you are and where you are in life. When you come to a forum and start asking questions like "What is the best airline to fly for" and "What is the best diet for pilots" when you are not a pilot and are still in high school, is rather ridiculous and misleading. Hence the cart before the horse. If he needs advice about how to proceed in a career in aviation, what education he might pursue, whole other ball of wax. And if he would have been honest and forthright from the beginning, plenty of members would gladly be willing to share their experiences and give advice.

I don't see where he did or didn't misrepresent himself .
I guess my point is just because a kid asked an admittedly loaded question on a forum of professionals in the field he is contemplating pursuing he shouldn't be admonished. I remember being very awkward at his age and not knowing that he has to tell you his life story before he asked a question seems familiar. Were you the the kid that had no problem with the ladies at the junior high dance? Not necessarily misrepresented. But I agree with Gerry that to ask such a very broad and open-ended question without some idea of where the OP is coming from, makes tailoring a worthwhile response......even with how general the question is.......that much more difficult. Knowing some background would make that more helpful.
Like Doug said, asking about which Vegas buffet is best because you'll be visiting there 7 years from now.
So I wouldn't say the OP is misrepresenting, I'd more say he's not giving contextual information to work with, in order to receive an accurate answer to his question. Which airline is best today? Tomorrow? a year from now? Who knows.

There has been recent posts from pilots that were kids when they joined this forum and have gone on to do some pretty cool things. I don't see a lot of kids even caring about airplanes anymore. The ones that do should be supported in their interest. That's why knowing some background would be very helpful in knowing how to tailor an answer appropriately and accurately. Just helpful, if only to not have the question come off as appearing to be trolling (which wasn't intended, I know), and get the sarcastic answers that fill the first page and a half.

OK, I'll stand down, I wonder where waco went......
See? Now you did it and I'm going to have to use that line with my wife later, Whoops.. wrong hole, wroong hoooole! We're in agreement, just coming from different angles.![]()
Words are not my first instinct, you expressed my feelings perfectly. Is there a Jet Careers Wordsmith award?I'm sure that his question(s) seemed to be perfectly appropriate to him. When you don't know what you don't know, you also don't know the right questions to ask. And at that age it seems perfectly understandable to me to be unaware that context and background is pertinent.
Bottom line to me is that we should be more understanding of where young people are coming from, and if we need to coach them how to help us help them we should do so in an understanding manner. Not in a derogatory way.
