Dr Forred,

How big a deal is benign positional vertigo?

What standards are considered to determine how bad the case is?

Are meds like Antivert disqualifying?

If the BPV warrants grounding, what is required to get a 1st class back. How long must the person be symptom-free (if symptom-free is required)?

Antivert is an antihistamine by class and is therfore disqualifying.

If the vertigo has resolved, the FAA will want ot see copies of the medical records for review before authoriziong a medical certificate. They will want you to be symptom free. probably for at least a month or more before saying yes.

Benign positional vertigo is not benign in the three dimensional environment of flight.
