Becoming a Military Pilot

I think the lightbulb finally went off as I was saddling in behind an Eagle for a guns kill, following several valid heater shots :) Don't worry Hacker, it was a [light] grey Eagle, not one of yours

Comments amplified above.

A dark grey would've been that much easier.

I says to Hollywood, "Where'd he go?"

Hollywood says, "Where'd WHO GOOOOOOO?!"

I know, it does happen, every guy with a 50 NSS gets jets or everyone gets helo's. You are right, you just never know. I thought I had jets back in the day, had some inside info and bam, out of no where, two E2/C2 slots roll out and I get it. I put E2/C2 second and got it...not I'm thinking that's why I got it lol Hell, you must want it if you put it down!!! A good buddy of mine had an NSS of 67 or so put E2/C2 last, number 1 overall and got E2/C2 o_O That's the Navy for you.

You know living in Kingsville or Meridian would make me question the jet pipeline. Never been to Meridian but the best thing about Kingsville is that Corpus is 30min away, and that's saying a lot about the place.

PGT - If you are worried about where strike fighter will take you remember there is a 50% chance of Lemoore. Plenty of ranges and airspace, sparse on everything else, unless you head to Fres-yes

Meridian has more in the town than Kingsville, I miss Chik-fil-a! Granted Kingsville is closer to Corpus, but in Meridian you had Tuscaloosa, Pensacola, etc. (I did Pensacola almost every other weekend). Most of the guys I know who went through Kingsvilles said the didn't venture out very often to Corpus. I never really liked Corpus, especially when the red tide moved through and the beach was covered in dead fish for a few months.

Yeah south TX is the butthole of the earth, no matter how you cut it. Meridian was slightly better, if only because of proximity to NOLA, pcola, ATL, and other places. I spent few weekends in Meridian, at least by choice. Either way, it doesn't matter......neither place is anywhere you would ever want to live. Then you can go to Lemoore where the only jets that aren't on deployment are Rhinos with no motors, or you can go to Oceana where you will live in minor terror that your deployment in 17 years is going to slide left to 16.5 years. And in either case, if you are single seat, you will fly 11 times a day while simultaneously standing duty and attending to 15 ground jobs. Two seat, you might re-stock the coffee mess monthly, potentially you will attend work at some point during the year, you might check in early and get some seniority points and receive the "FNG 26" patch, and you need not check the flight sked because your jets don't have any motors anyway.

You young guys think South Texas is bad because of Corpus and Kingsville......you all never had the grand opportunity to experience NAS Beeville (Chase Field), in beautiful Beeville, Tx.....a sprawling metropolis! Jet guys going Intermediate and Advanced had the fun of being able to go there.

Both suck but Kingville sucks more. As a stud, you are only here for a year. Sucks for an IP but the flying is great.

You Navy/Marine guys make me glad I went the AF route. Based in Phoenix, Germany, Austin, and Tucson.
