It was indeed an insane gorgeous day to be in AK and in the Air!
I put 3 hours in over the Sound...I flew to Valdez to fuel up, here is long, long, long final for RWY 6 at PAVD this afternoon.
Then my buddy Steve (the PAVD airport manager if any of you fly in there regularly) and I flew around a bit in very loose formation in his C172.
Some kind of boat around Hinchinbrook somewhere's around sundown.
Hey, as a DOT employee at a remote airfield who spends a fair bit of time knocking lights over with heavy equipment and then fixing them ask those FAA guys to make the new fangled system as tough as possible. Not tough enough to eviscerate my Cessna, but tough enough to withstand an ATV, grader or loader running 'em down.
Cool idea to make 'em reflective instead of powered. Take 7KA for example; today the Vill power was down, so of course the airport lights were down. Village power is unreliable, reflectors will make life safer for all.
