Beards...what gives?!

Go ahead, tell him his beard looks unprofessional. I dare you....

He rocked that mustache on "Up in the Air" playing the captain. I must say I admire his mustache. :rawk:

Capt. Sullenberger has a mustache....do you think he caught crap for it?

The entire flight crew that day was mustached. I guess this was the reason they were successful? :dunno:

Eh, too many flight attendants have beards for me to buy into the "public perception" thing. Pilots spend way less time generally with the public than gate agents and flight attendants, and there are no rules baring them from having beards that I'm aware of.

As was said before, I think back to old ship captains. I don't think a mainline captain walking through a concourse with a big scruffy white beard like he owns the place would make anyone uncomfortable. In fact, I'm sure it'd put people at ease as epic beards, as well as epic mustaches, come with great responsibility. Responsibilities that may include the summon of an Amber Lamps.

And my main point:

Most airlines allow sideburns to either mid-ear or to the lower lobe.

What was really appalling is that they appear to be in cruise, he still has his tie on at minimum. He maybe a freight dawg and that's just disconcerting.

What I noticed most was that his company spent some cash and invested in the glass instrumentation for the engines, and went way big-bucks on the EHSI.

Perhaps it is a NWA classic. We may never know.

I know a 747 freight FO that has chops. He puts his slippers on when he gets to cruise.:D

True, but the chops don't get all mutton-style at the bottom with the flare.

How are things at your shop?

Not bad man! I just came from a job fair where I hear my kind of flight time is not the right kind of flight time though.:D

Worn trim and neat beards can give a look of being distinguish and in charge. Looking at this crew here, I don't think it would be too hard to guess who the captain is, without looking at the sleeves. Of course, this crews safety record ended with one big blemish.

The GPWS failed on them.

How about the long-hair pony tailed A300 capt who was with the crew in the landing accident at OAIX?
