Anyone know the price for initial 414 training at simcom?

Don't go to SimCom or flight safety. There is a guy out of NJ that is absolutely amazing. He will prepare you to fly that airplane.

Let me see if I can find his info.

Agree... those places are absolutely not worth it. Extremely overpriced. You can find a good instructor who has been flying the airplane, and you can do it in your aircraft - that's the best.

The 400 series Cessnas are not hard to fly at all.

Sometimes the insurance company will want the training to be done at one of the larger, more well known facilities. They can't know if the lone wolf instructor that you picked on the side is really really good, or really really 'easy', so they'll stick with requiring a known commodity.

This is a legit operation that was recommending to me by CK. We've both dealt w/ the guy and he is stand-up.

He works w/ the insurance companies and has some type of agreements w/ them. He is the real deal. Still trying to find his info though.

Here you are!

Ask to speak w/ Bob Pinto when the ball gets rolling. He's a no BS kinda guy.

From their website:

Our training courses have been approved by:

-AIG Aviation
-Aviation Allianz Aviation Managers
-Global Aerospace
-USAIG
-U.S. Specialty
-W. Brown

The insurance company doesn't have to dominate what type of training you get... and some insurance company requirements are negotiable. They can get pretty pushy sometimes... but you're still the customer. Just my humble opinion...the relationship between insurance companies and large training facilities is... interesting...

"scratch my back, I'll scratch yours"

Pinto is the best instructor I have flown with. I would recommend him over any simulator based school or any other instructor out there. I've done three initials with him and will be going back for a fourth soon.

Edit: Why would any one want to waste $300,000 on a P-Baron!?!

Alex.

Do you have any previous Cessna 400 time or in something similar? (Say a Navajo/Chieftain).

The reason I ask, when I was shopping insurance for our 414, I used Jim Gardner at JLS Aviation Insurance. He's a great guy, he's a former Piedmont pilot (the real Piedmont) and if you'd like another reference, talk to OrangeAnchor.

He was able to get us a great rate on our premium and was able to get only "re-current" training for the aircraft...despite the fact I hadn't had formal "initial", I had 100+ hours in 400 series though.

I will tell you straight up, if you get serious about a Cessna 400 series...you have to get a pre-buy done by someone who knows Twin Cessna's. Here in Georgia we have S&S Aviation, who does all of our mx and knows Cessna 400's better than anyone else...and AB Aviation, who used to do all the mx on our flight school aircraft and twin Cessna's.

S&S Aviation is also approved for Twin Cessna training...Jimmy Garland knows Cessna 400's inside and out. He will teach you things about Cessna 400's that you only gain after many years of experience of flying and maintaining them.

You've got a great opportunity in front of you and I wish you the best with it!

^ Some more great advice ^

If you're really interested in buying any 400 series Cessnas you should also consider going to Jet-Air up in Galesburg, IL - They are a 135, but also deal in aircraft sales...a lot of 400 series

Phillip is a great guy and has thousands of hours in the 400 series Cessnas and could probably arrange for the insurance training as well.
