I've never had any contact with anyone there, I don't have any first hand knowledge of them at all. That said, it was an honest question - why would it be so hard to find a low-time pilot ;)

One of the other co-owners of my 172 knows the owner of FAA pretty well - I think he's a good guy. I imagine this might be related to business picking up. My office has a view of Albert Whitted and their flights have picked up of late with improving weather. They also may be looking to replace the dude who put it down in a mall parking lot a few months back.

They want you to pay 3k for initial training, no exceptions, and a 1 year contract! That turns a lot of people off right away....

They don't fly out of SPG though, that would be Advertising Air Force. Different operation.

So far as I know, FAA still does pickups from Airport Manatee. http://forums.jetcareers.com/general-topics/71749-florida-aerial-advertising.html

The little faa wants you to pay for training even if you have a bunch of tailwheel time. That b.s. But I guess some people will pay it.

TW isn't too useful flying a 172/175
Is there another company by the same name down there? There was a big write up bout a company called florida aerial advertising over on the aopa boards that charged like 2500 for tailwheel training for their operation than never acutally gave you a job once the training was finished. Must be a different company.

There was one in DAB that I knew of, different name though. It is a pretty well known 'scam' though, which is one reason PFT/PFJ tends to sound the alarm around here.

Just do your homework on any job, in particular of they are asking for cash up front. That's generally a red flag for me in anything.

I interviewed at The Little FAA about 14 months ago... It's a bright yellow C175, older owner mid 50's... The owner doesn't even have a CFI, and does his own maintenance in his hangar on his plane. I went down there and he pays $14/flight hour and $7/hour office work and miscellaneous. When I went and interviewed he wanted 3k for training, which included a $500 deposit (which he waived for me). At the time he had one customer, which only flew once a month (2 hours per month). The average rent for a single apartment in St. Pete is about $700/month plus utilities. The pilot before me "got lucky" as they built a grass runway, so that he could pay the bills, making $7/hour while building a runway. I told him after my interview that I wasn't interested, and he cussed me out for not committing.

Ha. This guy is a whack job. He lost his Medical back in 1986 for lying about taking lithium for mood swings. Then in 2002 one of his pilots died. I interviewed for it too and was turned off in 2 seconds. He is a full out liar. Stay AWAY.

If that's a Skylark, do they still have the go300 engine? It seems that engine would take a beating towing banners.

According to the airworthiness cert, yes. And no, I wouldn't trust the gearbox either. The safety record hasn't been the best in level cruise. Low over the water?
