bananas on a plane?

This is a really strange question. My girlfriend is flying up to Montana on United with my 16 month old son. The kid really loves bananas and she wants to know if the airlines will let her take bananas on the plane. I searched the interwebs and couldn't find anything. Anyone think that'll be a problem?

Thanks! I guess a juice box and baby bottle would be fine too then.

You'd think it would be okay, but I don't know if a juice box can come through. I know it wouldn't be able to come through for an adult, so I doubt it is okay for a baby, too.

I have heard there are exceptions for breast milk or baby formula though.

Any liquid has to be three ounces or less and all of those separate liquids must be able to fit in a one quart clear plastic ziploc bag.

I would go to the TSA website for all this. Juice boxes aren't taken lightly at the airport.

Cut from the TSA website:

Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Actually, I have flown with a few captains who won't let me eat bananas on the plane. It's some silly superstition that they're bad luck or something. Not only on planes, but on boats, too. Neither CA would explain why, so if anyone here knows, please inform!

That's pretty crazy. I'll have to ask my Dad what his take on it is. He was a Merchant Marine and worked on the Panama Canal as a pilot for a long time. You could say he has been on a few boats;)

I just talked to my dad and he said that on ships, its a myth. He used to work for the United Fruit company and they would haul Bananas from south America to ports all over the US,Europe, and Asia. He said that they would get tired of eating bananas every day. everything from banana pudding, to fried bananas, banana soup, banana salad, just plain bananas.......i think you get the point.

Still no clue on the superstition when it comes to planes though.

No bananas in the plane? I have yet to hear that one...so someone explain! I've eaten bananas while flying before...and the only reason I can think of as to why I shouldn't have is because I was flying with a gay guy :laff:.

Because bananas can be a terrarist threat. I mean, all they have to do is put one of those peels on the floor and everyone will fall down, thus causing the plane to crash.
