So a person should probably say thanks to someone who got them a job? agreed?

There's a laid-off CFI who moved back here and wasn't able to find a job, he lacks some personality and people skills (I'll leave it at that). Well I thought about taking a flying job this summer and during the time I was thinking about this I told the CFI about the opening, he went in and got the job, which was ok because I didn't want it anyway; but I've seen him several times since and not once has he mentioned it or even said thanks.

Kinda irks me that he got a nice gig and flies a lot and never bothered to say thanks or anything. Needles to say, I consider this a burned bridge and won't be able to say good things if a potential employer asks as it is a small world around here.

Agreed. That is pretty rude....at WORST case, if he has such bad people skills, he could have written you a thank you email and/or letter to avoid the personal contact. That is kind of strange.

Yeah, maybe a quick thanks was in order, but from what I can tell all you said was "There is an opening (here)."

I don't think I would dwell on that for too long. Good deed for the day done.

He should probably say thanks for turning him on to it, but I wouldn't say you got him the job... unless you knew the employer and said hey look at this guy or were a reference for the guy.

It was a word of mouth thing, no official opening I think.

Agreed. If you told him about a want ad or web site or saw a sign about an opening would you still expect a "Thank you"?

I think the bigger offense is that you discussed an opening and he used that information to get the job! Now that would make me mad. THEN I would be really upset if he thanked me.......

Then yes. You had insider information that enabled him to get the job that otherwise he would not have. I mean he probably should regardless, but as long as we're dissecting the situation.

You'll just run into that sort of thing every now and again, I know I have. Just put it in the back of your mind for when you're in a hiring position years from now.

Any help scoring a job these days should get you a minimum of a "thank you". It doesn't cost anything and it's basic common courtesy/politeness. Don't expect flowers, but there's no excuse for not saying thanks.

You did say he lacks people skills. I agree. As with everything else, learn and move on. It happens. And please don't hold it against the next person you might be able to help out, this guy's just a ...

Thanks for doing a good deed for a brother in need.(rhyme not intended)

Hell I'd say scoring a job should get you a minimum of a 6pack with that thank you.

As for the guy with the bad people skills, he'll probably washout like a skid-mark in the wash, students would hopefully get fed up with him.

Well did you mention the opening in passing or did you directly help him get the job?? I mean it sounds pretty lame but if you just mentioned it in passing maybe he didn't think much of it, or had already heard about it... ? Just giving the benefit of the doubt

He probably doesn't know that he's offending you...but I would have said thank you anyways

E Dawg...where is your avatar from??? Looks like an awesome time!

I wish I took that shot but haven't been yet... in a few months though; this particular one is trance energy in utrecht, netherlands

Fellow trance fan are ya? Going to armin only mirage in utrecht!! Funny cuz not too many people love that kind of music stateside but I have been listening for about a decade, just never been to a show. It's slowly gaining popularity here though. (sorry to derail the thread!)

Fo real! I have the armin only Imagine DVD from 2008 and when I realized the venue was jaarbeurs utrecht I HAD to grab some tickets to the 2010 tour.

Your note is not clear about what role you had in his employment acquisition. If you mentioned the opportunity and he pursued it, then he showed initiative. If you facilitated him being hired, then he received a gift. On this person's behalf I'll say "Thanks". What goes around usually comes around. At some point I'm sure that you'll receive a benefit. My suggestion is: Don't waste your time focussing on one person's perceived ingraciousness.
