Babies... Babies...Everywhere...

I can attest to the "birth control is less than 100% effective" idea. My wife (Not "The Wife" Just to clarifly any confusion. he he) and I had no plans for kids in the near future, (We already have a couple) and now we have one on the way around Christmas. I'm a little concerned. You see, my wife keeps telling me that even abstinence is not a 100% effective, but I just can't see how this could have happened?! Most evenings I go on night flights and she tells me to take my time and that there is no hurry to get home. Plus she's always so tired when I get back. . . . . .

OK I kid. I kid because I am extremely tired. But really, we have one on the way and you cant always count on birth control. Some of my fellow pilots assure me that they can prevent this from happening in the future with a simple procedure involving some Bactine, a pair of scissors and a pocket knife. (I think they called it an hillbilly vasectomy. It might have involved a cherry bomb too, but I'm not sure.)

Just when I thought I had my finances where I wanted them.

Maybe, as Doug mentioned, it has something to do with the Salt Lake/Utah area.

OK, now I am going to get some sleep.
 
Tubes tied is not 100% either Kristie but I bet it's a LOT better % then just bcp. Not even vasectomies are 100%. The only thing that IS, besides no sexual contact of course, is having your uterus removed. Every now and then you hear about a woman in her 40's, 50's, 60's, that gets pg and had assumed they couldn't. Infertility isn't even 100%. Corbin's parents tried for like 8 years and were told they would never be able to have kids, so they adopted him and his sister, then she finds out on Corbin's first birthday that she is pg, and had 4 more pg's after that.

Still nothing on the way from camp Iain - I might purchase a horse, but those are easily sold if they become too much of a pest.
 
A horse might just be the one pet/animal that is actually more expensive to keep than a baby! . . . Well maybe a close second. At least you don't have any diapers to change.

A horse will run $500 a month on the low end - if you want it groomed it will be closer to $1K.

I spend more on tires for my horse then I do my car - every 6 weeks they need replacing costing $100 a pop. Gasoline is quite expensive - timothy hay is about $17 per bail, a bail will last you about 3 days. Insurance and parking are cheaper yes, maintenance is expensive (no warranty), and horses legs are more fragile then a women's emotions!

You could - but you can not just park your horse like you can your car. They need water, feed, movement, etc.

Good LORD Iain. $17/bale for timothy? Oh wait, you ARE in Socal. Not a more expensive place to keep a horse in the country.

We pay $2.50/bale for good quality brome right out of the field. $3.50-$4/bale for straight alfalfa. Feed (Purina Equine Senior) about $10/50 lb bag, $55 each time my horse gets new Nikes (every 6 weeks...)

I guesstimate I spend about $200/mo on my horse, maybe a tad bit more (feed, hay, supplements, shoes, shavings for bedding, everyday care items, averaged vet bills). Used to be much, much more before he was retired (he's 24 now). Luckily, I don't pay board. Rent a 10 acre farm with a beautiful 5 stall barn.
