The company is doing great, they have more then 50 airplanes on order, E195 and ATR 72-600.

They are in huge need of Capts, if the law will change in 2011 many US pilots will be able to fly here...

Is it supposed to change to allow non citizens to fly for Brazilian airlines?

yes, they are slowly already allowing some type of crews to fly here (like on heavy helicopters). The reg now allows CFIs to work here, but on a 6 month contract (many airlines here had Americans CFIs on 767 and other B products). I think it will be time limited, Brazil wants to get local crews at the end (so don`t be worried if you have low time, you will get your chance), they are talking about a 5 year permit, already right now there is a huge need of Captains, in the last years a ton of FOs have been hired with fresh CPL, upgrade times are long (many airlines have just one or two different types of planes too, so there is not much to upgrade too and you can`t make capt somebody with 2000 hours). Even if Varig closed in 2005 most of this pilots moved to Asia and Middle East or are flying corporate, some of them were making 18K reais month and don`t feel like getting 1/3 of that now, pay is bad and Brazil is getting more expensive every day, just to give you an idea in the last year price of Milk has gone up 1 real a liter, so meat, it`s not much but slowly it will makes a difference especially when pilots make 6-7 time minimum wage.....even if you talk to pilots right now, they are building time to go to better paid jobs abroad, they actually help each other at many airlines in the Gulf and Asia, they share Apts,....

Things are changing, most pilots don`t believe it, but slowly things are getting better. More English on ATC, newer airports, better training and safety. The govt and most aviation magazines are advertising a huge boom and improvement in aviation, for me there is a change but it`s slow and things are still not good...but you know Brazil is improving at a crazy rate and so will aviation for sure.

I am hoping things will get better.
