axial fan vs centrifugal fan

Exactly. "Ice vanes? Inertial separators?? Just feed me gravel, I'll spit it out the back so your kids have a sand box to play in" says the Garrett.
Maybe @z987k has the video, but that's been done, exactly apparently. They dumped a hopper of gravel straight into the the thing and while it got a little pissed, it kept running! GARRETS! "I'll run on what you give me and like it! Bird dirt? Om nom"

Purely anecdotal, but I've had far fewer troubles with pt6s than I have with garrets over about an equal amount of time with each. I like both engines for different reasons, but I really don't miss the insane loudness of the garrets at all....except for when I get to be the loudest guy on the ramp and watch people wince in pain from the sound.

If you are going to be one of the Garret pilots make sure you start the engines and then sit on the ramp for over 15 minutes doing whatever instead of doing it at the runup area. Everyone on the ramp loves hearing the 331's scream, sarcasm.

When you get to your destination do what I did years ago and be totally sure to put the props on the locks. I blew the girls hat off of that was parking us and covered her with dirt. B100 King Air, over 2 years I got maybe 10 hours in the airplane so no I was not sharp.

I would often do that on purpose depending on who was working outside (around the same peeps all the time) and then give them one of these looks:

If you want Garrett responsiveness in a free turbine, get CT7s. The saab engines are amazingly responsive.

They're also good at getting a response. Pull up short of the parking area and pull the power levers just over the ground idle gate. Rampers come running for nothing else than to shut up the loud noise!

I had to do a 1 hour ground run the other day due to a funny SOAP sample.
