avidyne avionics question...

I have not flown Avidyne, so anyone who has please correct me if I'm wrong, but here is my understanding:
The Avidyne does not have integrated GPS, therefore it is dependent on external GPS data from the dual 430s. Contrast this with the G1000, which has the GPS units fully integrated.

roger, roger..i understand what you mean there..its basically using the gps off of the 430s to slave the big gps on the MFD screen in the middle. i thought about it a bit more after i posted, and i'm assuming the garmins are used for radios as well.

That (Roger, Roger) would be correct. :yeahthat: The Avidyne Integra is not a true integrated system. So your two 430's provide your GPS capability as well as your COM's 1 & 2 as well as NAV's 1 & 2. And that's why it also has a separate S-Tec autopilot.

That being said, it is still a great system. Having a "plethora" of experience with both the Avidyne (in the Piper Archer and Meridian) and the G1000, I personally prefer the G1000. Although the Avidyne is less intimidating and easier to teach, the G1000 is a much more capable system.

Hope that helps. If ya have any other ?'s, feel free to PM me!

Correct, all nav/coms are on the two 430's. The MFD in the center, when it is on the map page, gets all its info from the 430's. None of the avidyne panels have integrated GPS.

I fly the avidyne and love it(Cirrus). It is very simple to operate in comparison with the G1000. Maybe if I had more time in G1000 planes my opinion would change. The G1000 will do more, but in the 15 or so hours I have in them I am still a little rusty.

Air Pirate types faster than me.....

This may change soon though...doesn't Avidyne have their own GPS unit that they're going to be putting into the Entegra setup soon? It's almost a FMS type setup with a CDU.
