Wasn't it something like 9 out of the 11 ATP guys interviewed got the job? I'm guessing those other 2 guys probably don't think ATP got them a job.....
Ummm right... I don't think that's the arguement here.
It's not a school that gets the job, it's the APPLICANT.
Kind of... There are schools that will get you an interview before you could have gotten one on your own. Then... it's up to the applicant.

Marketing aside... that's a fact. Those 11 guys got an interview. 9 of them made it and got the offer. Like you said... it's up to the applicant.

As for Don's "Poetic" Pinnacle debaucle... the 9 guys are either starting class or in a future class. The situation involving PCL stopping classes had nothing to do with any flight schools relationship with them.

The business decision by pinnacle to stop classes coinciding with that flight schools announcement was just that... a coincidence. One that allowed folks to jump on a band wagon and attack saying... "See... Ha! It's all marketing!" ;)

May be but I think it's pretty funny when ATP touts "Hired" in big bold print but then a good number of the guys ended up in a pool with no seniority number, no class date, and no pay check. Welcome to the career, boys....

So you're saying that people aren't "hired" until they start day 1, getting paid at that company? I think the rest of the world would disagree with that.

What term would you use for these people ("semi-hired" into a pool)?

Hired is having a class date than has numbers and slashes between them. As in xx/xx/xxxx.....

Sorry for the confusion.

Wheels... he makes the point that one is not "hired" until a seniority number is issued and a paycheck is enroute, which happens after an interview, Indoc, Systems, FTD's, SIM's, and a Checkride.

But... your arguement is similar to mine. While it is true that a seniority number being issued definately means you are "working" for a company... being offered the job means being "hired".

It's semantics... I have to concede that he is "technically" correct. But that the reality of how we use the term is different. I know when I hired people in the past... I would say... "I just hired 4 people... they start in two weeks."

Regardless... he was using the technical term to state his feelings toward a marketing statement made at ATP which coincided with an unfortunate set of circumstances at 9E.

Does that about sum it up Don? :)

heck, I got all that (senority number and starting to earn a paycheck) the day prior to starting indoc.

I agree. Just look at the annoucements page and you'll see posts that start off with "hired!" yet they haven't started indoc yet.

So....

Next time I have a deferred APU in PHX in the summer, I should call you? Where do you work, these day?

Max,

I thought you were doing some phone/call center type stuff. Are you working at the airport again?

Honeywell. Were across the freeway (I-10) from KPHX Don on the northside. We get AOD (Aircraft On Ground) which equals priority all the time. Just depends the on what APU's you guys have the most I see are 331-200ER's.

Oh and I'm an engine mechanic apprentice and I hate getting dirty isn't that funny. When I told my mom she laughed her self for 10 mins. no lie.

JEP...the cubicle thing got to me heard they were hiiring here and was gone... never looked back!

Here's the way I see it: if you're hired, that's great. But, what if you don't get a class date for nine months? Are you gonna sit by the phone with no income? At that point, being "hired" means two things, Jack and @*&$, and Jack left town. TECHNICALLY, you're hired, but it does you know good save for bragging rights.

I doubt that folks who are in a pool will have up and quit their job and will be sitting by the phone with baited breath. I also doubt that Blee stood around for 9 months with no income...

My PPL instructor did make other arrangements after getting hired in SkyWest's Pool... He actually quit his instructing job and moved from Maine to Colorado Springs and got a job as a Car Salesman until they finally called him for his class date. He made a ton more money while waiting! :)

...and where the hell did Jack run off to??? ;)

See, to me, that's the same as being a business major in college, and being hired at some Fortune 500 as a junior. Although, your job is contingent on you finishing. You're TECHNICALLY hired, but nothing has really changed in life. You're still doing odd jobs etc to make ends meet.

Now, if you get an interview and a job offer with a class date, then that's different. I don't know too many people that get a call from McDonald's telling them "Well, you've got a job, but we don't know when you'll be able to start. We'll call or e-mail you later" going around saying they're hired. Trust me, if I didn't get a class date along with the phone call from PCL, I would still been pounding pavement trying to land that first regional job. That's why the interview with XJT was till on until I had a class date.

I can see that... makes sense.

Apples and oranges... I doubt Micky D's will ever have a "Pool" of applicants who spent thousands of dollars and countless hours of time preparing for working there, chomping at the bit to start flipping them burgers. :) You are comparing a real-world situation with a... totally unrealistic one. ;)
