Aviation Sunglasses

I am currently training for my CFI and decided to spend some money on aviation sunglasses. I don't have a fancy headset so I know it should have thin metal arms so noise won't leak in. I also know I need not polarized.

Anything else I should consider? Any recommendations?

True. We were five miles out from the threshold, 2000 feet AFE and the captain said, "I can make it".

I look over, and he's got "HD Blue Blockers" on and I said, "My controls, gear down"

This is easy. Simply buy what the military issues. If it good enough at Mach II it will be good enough for civil aviation.

The basic AO Original Pilot has been the issue sunglasses since 1958. Cost at this website is $33.99. These are not knock-offs. They are the real deal and I have been wearing them for almost 40 years.

I have a pair of Oakley Tightropes that were $100. They fit perfectly under my headset and are super comfortable. The lens are crystal clear too. I flew with the cheap $10 glasses for years and I only got the Oakleys because after 3 years, my $10 pair broke, however I'll never go back now. There's no comparison.

I just got a new pair of Ray-Ban prescription sunglasses after years of using 20 dollar pairs and they are amazing. Granted they are prescription but the clarity is amazing.

The only ones I've flown with a Ray Ban aviators. Sure, you look like a tool, but theyre really comfy.

Von Zipper Ray-Ban styled polarized from the swap meet. the nose rests are pretty comfortable.

Serengeti Velocity with drivers gradient. Ive had mine for 4 years now, been dropped, sat on, lost, found, crammed into flight bags, under seats, next to panels, had oil and gas tons of dirt on them and they still fit great. I highly recommend them.

Whatever you do do not buy aviator style glasses. They went out of fashion at the same time as cop staches. At least that's the way I feel when looking at someone wearing them. I have used serengeti for years, but now have a pair of oakleys that are shaped very similarly, not the blades.

Just make sure they have good glass, thin arms and a cool shape that you can wear outside of the cockpit and not look like a motorcycle cop wannabe.

So basically, if you wear Aviator Shades, some dude in a skirt won't think special thoughts about you? Hand me that Sporty's catologue... :)
