Aviation Myths

Speak for yourself.

I guess if you go around popin' off that your a pilot, the some girl will bite. I wouldnt know cause i tell everyone that im a pizza delivery driver. It saves me alot of pain answering questions like " so..you actually fly planes!?". Or my favrotie is " Do you know of any middle easterners that fly!?".

The biggest kick in the nuts is when people introduce you at the bar or a party...." Hey this is Ryan...hes a pilot" WTF is that!!! The onslot of retarded questions all night! Its fun drinking at the bar talking about Sallie Mae interest rates.

Yeah. I get the "didn't one of the terrorists go to your school?" I then have to explain that it was a former student with a similar name to one of the terrorists and he was later located living safely in Cincinnati, OH.

Let's amend it to "saying you're a pilot gets you girls." I'll agree with that.

"All airline pilots, regional's included, make big bucks."

People are so suprised when I tell them that the guy up front of the 70 seater jet is only making $18k a year at best.

So you're answering a myth with a myth?

18k is a bit of hyperbole for most 70 seater payscales that I've seen.

my buddy walked up to my after first learning i had my licence and asked, arn't you scard that if the engine goes out you crash?

sorry... no. far from it...

another person came up to me and explained that he was sooo scared flying on the airlines, because he will die if any small thing goes wrong... (one small thing is always believed to cause major deaths in aviation - from the news) i'm like, those planes have like 4 engines, 3 back up electical systems, and 4 hydrolic systems... I explained that he has 3000 times more chances of getting hit by lightning on a clear day than by getting into a deadly, or even minor crash in an airliner.

ever get the same thing?
