On average how much do military aviators fly per week, month, year? I understand that the answer to this question depends on several different aspects but a general answer will do. I apologize if this question has been asked earlier in a different form

Thanks,
Ryan

Depends on the equipment. Transport/bomber guys will generally fly more than fighter guys. Fighters, on average, 14-16 hours/month peacetime. I was getting about 55-70 hours/month combat. Transport guys..it all really depends. These days, they're racking up the time, even though most of it is droning level across the ocean, but it's still time.

Like Mike said, it depends...

In the P-3 I always thought we got a decent # of hours, especially when you're airborne anywhere from 5 to 10 hours at a time, but I know folks who flew jets who have similar hours to me. In my 3 years flying the P-3 I got about 1000 hrs. Just to compare though, my CO had only about 3000 hours and he'd been in the Navy for about 20 years. Most guys who get out of the Navy after their initial commitment and go to the airlines will probably have around 2500 hours. For some that's all turbine PIC, for some, like P-3 guys, it may be a little over 1000 PIC.

FYI, monthly hours could range from 5 to 75, depending on if you're on deployment or if your boss has got you doing some inane task in the office that in the end only makes him look better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As a "part timer" in the Army National Guard, I have the same minimums as my Active Duty counter parts ... 110hrs / yr in the C-12 ( BE-200 ). I actually fly about 175hrs., with my last year on Active Duty flying about 600hrs. I'd say the average in our command for Active Duty pilots is about 400hrs. BTW: I fly about 600hrs for my civilian job so I's keeps busy.

As a helo guy I got around 250 a year in the fleet. As an IP I was doing about 550-600, but could have gotten more if the spousal unit let he hit the road more.
