Average Age

Out of curiosity, what do you think the average age of a new-hire at a regional is? I'm enjoying my CFI gig now, but as I've always done, I'm looking ahead to that next step.

I just turned 23, and have 500TT, 20 multi (just got my MEI and a couple multi students lined up) and have a bachelor's degree. My goal is to be at a regional by 25 at the latest, and at a major (guess which one) by 30.

For those who've followed the CFI->Regional->Major route - How old were you when you first landed an airline gig, and what do you think the average age of a new-hire is? I'm curious to know.

I'd say the average spread is between 22-30. It's really dependent on supply/demand. In 06 I'd say early 20's within a couple years of graduating and/or instructing. Then we had a freeze, now it's a spread. 21 is the bottom and I know we have some FO's in their 40's too that did either career changes or a second career. I'd say 25 as a general age if you have to nail it down. Even if you start at 30 at a regional- that's STILL a possible 35 years in the career (medical and desire permitting). Obviously there are exceptions (some started at 18, others in their 50's).
