ATP written changes?

A friend of mine called me up last night all excited/worried because he had heard the FAA is changeing the format of the ATP Written to an essay based format at the end of the month. I don't buy itfor a couple of reasons (mainly due to the time/effort it would take to grade the stupid things) but since this was the first I'd heard of it I thought I'd throw the question out.

I know they changed the other writtens several months back and I'm guessing that if they are changing the ATP it'll fall in line with the changes they did to the other writtens.

But, anyone know anything?

I haven't heard anything either, but like you I seriously doubt it would be an essay test. Essays are subjective and it would involve more money on the part of the FAA. They would have to pay someone to grade the tests. On top of that, results would probably take 4+ weeks to come back.

That wouldn't go over too well. Someone with excellent knowledge but poor writing skills would have a hard time with it, it couldn't be computer graded, and due to time constraints they couldn't ask as many questions.
