ATP Riverside or Phoenix...

I instruct at Riverside, So i would recommend coming here. haha. PHX is also a great location. My friend Dan intructs there and he is a great instructor. I say riverside because training in the LA airspace/terrain/radio congestion will only make you a better pilot. Some have said if you can fly in Southern cali you can fly anywhere, and I think its true. I also heard the same comment made about Florida, but those who say that havent flown here. good luck..........you wont go wrong with either choice you make. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Come to Phoenix! We need more Career Pilots! FAST!! Bring all your friends too! (haha... just kidding) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Instruct in Phoenix, so ofcourse I am pretty bias. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif We are pretty slow here right now but are hoping it will pick up in the Career Pilot department. The weather is getting cooler making it nice for flying, even in the afternoon!. All of our locations, including Riverside are good. My friend Brian works there and was actually one of my Private Pilot instructors.

Hope to see you soon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the replies. Seeing that PHX is a little slow (obviously it's summer) I was wondering how many professional students are in riverside. Also, I was wondering how many instructors are in riverside and phx as well. My reasons are that these are also places that once I finish I'd like to instruct at (if given the opportunity /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) I'm just concerned that if I'm not near the people who make the hiring decisions, you may have a hard time getting a job. I don't know how the system works so I may be completely wrong. Can you explain what the hiring environment is like @ ATP...

Not to change the subject, but can you suggest some areas to live and avoid in Riverside.

What are you talking about? Everywhere in the 909 is safe! You've been watching too much of The OC. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Personally, I'd avoid anywhere where you'd have to pay rent. Thus, I'd recommend staying in the free apartments if you're doing the career pilot program. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Where you do your program has no bearing on whether you get hired or not. Most of the people who make the hiring decisions are in the corporate office, not at any of the training centers. You do interact with the dispatchers, and your progress is closely tracked, so they have an idea who to hire.

With that said, wouldn't it stand to reason that the more visible you are the better chances you have? How else do you separate yourself from others with everything else held constant?

I was looking thru our phone list (because my life is sooo exciting) and out of all the instructors at ATP only a handful was from JAX. and most of them were private pilot students, so you really cant count them. Its very reasonable to think that being in jax you have a better chance. You might, but if you talk to any instructor at ATP they will tell you it doesnt make a difference. Just work hard and do well.

good luck.

I'm sitting in the main office right now and looking at the phone list (having nothing to do either) I see that only one guy (out of 11) came out of the JAX location. Where you make your impression is how you deal with dispatch on a day to day basis on your cross countries and you jet ride (depending on how it is with). My new hire class was slot pretty evenely east and west coast.
