ATP Question

I think I already know the answer to this, I am still CFI and MEI but haven't actively instructed in a few years. With upgrade I am now an ATP, which in the FAR's also makes me an instructor. The only thing that prevented me from getting my CFII was not wanting to go back and take the instrument written test again, is there anyway to get my CFII with out taking the written, or as an ATP, can I teach instrument students with out it? I know the regs say 15 hours with a CFII but I didn't know if there were any exemptions.

The ATP is not a CFI or II. You can only instruct under very limited circumstances with an ATP; under an air carrier's approved training program, and that's it.

I'm afraid if you want to get the CFII, there aren't any shortcuts.

Agreed, no shortcuts.

Giving instruction as an ATP is very limited as mentioned above. Under Part 91; you can conduct training in an aircraft for which you hold a type rating such as a SIC training/sign off only.

No is does NOT!

An ATP may only provide instruction within the parameters of an air carrier's training program, or give training in an aircraft that you are typed in.

No other outside instruction is allowed, and doing so can get allyour ratings revoked. You can not do any primary instruction if you only hold an ATP.

Yep, I got that part buddy, but seeing as I stated in the OP that I stillhave a current CFI and MEI, I am not going to get any certificates pulled, thanks for going the extra mile though.

DOOPPHH! Perhaps I should read your posts more carefully before I shoot my mouth off.

That said, I have run across several people who thought having an ATP alone qualified them to give primary instruction.

Yeah I know I have to have the certificates to instruct, what I didn't know is that because of some of the limited privileges you get with an ATP if you could use those as a short cut to get the CFII, Got my answer though. Thanks guys.
