ATP loophole for graduates from accredited flight program

Re: ATP loophole for graduates from accredited flight progra

We'll do comprehensive health regulation reform, but United Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield will be exempt.

Does this mean I have to stay at a flight school until I get my ATP with no experience?

You'd need 1500 hours total (plus a lot of other boxes to check) in order to qualify for the ATP. I'd call that "experience." Odds are the flight school wouldn't let anyone stay unless they were instructing. Need to clear room for the next guy approved for a loan.

Just finished watching that hearing, and all I can say is WOW. Such a significant hearing for the JC target audience, I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on it.

I almost cheered out loud when Prater brought up the dollar-per-hour-per-passenger thing! I've been saying on here for YEARS that crews would make a better living if the carriers paid them NOTHING and every passenger tossed a five-spot or a ten-spot in a tip jar on their way out. SO glad that people are finally making an issue of the economics involved. More than one committee member hammered RAA toady Roger Cohen for his comment that commuting is simply a "lifestyle choice". Absolutely awesome.

For those who missed it, you can watch the hearing video here:

You can read the canned witness statements here; skip ahead in the video to about 1:05 or so for the beginning of the Q&A, where all the good stuff was.

Lobbying at its best. This is pretty ridiculous.

It is pure self interested greed driven proposal no doubt...
or is it?

Perhaps to paraphrase Mr. Babbit's recent comments, there is a problem of professionalism in cockpits, and they are staking a claim that they offer a better solution?

Haven't made up my mind on this. I do think that ATP is a great start, but now is a golden opportunity to draw a line in the sand on qualifications.
