ATP Locations

For the record, the one time I went to Trenton it was run by a 300 lb slob who wasn't helpful at all. Either they got rid of that guy or they cracked the whip on him.

Ouch :( I'll try to keep my head up after that one. Have a nice day man, hope everything is working well for ya!

And say forget about the 60-90k for ATP.... Just a wild thought.....

That's quite the exaggeration. Are you including interest over a 20 year loan in that number? Statements like that don't prove what you know but what you don't know.

AviationInspiration: Don't worry about 44Driver. If you look up his history pretty much every post he makes is against ATP.

Your plan sounds pretty good. If you can do the FBO route that is what I would have to recommend for the money. About the only thing that I would change is to try to have your CFI by the time you start your third year of college. That would allow you to instruct while you are at college and have a good amount of time by the time you graduate.

I am still thinking of getting my PPL at the age of 16,(Summer 2012) at a FBO. Do you think I could get the PPL over a whole summer? And I will probably have my CFI ratings by the time I start the third year of college, since I will probably do the 90 day ACPP on the 2nd summer, before I start the 3rd year. Then I will probably instruct and when I get out of college I will be ready :D

Nothing wrong with wanting to get plans... Plan A, B, C and D...... :) Cant have too many!

My only advice to the OP is to not be so set on one idea that you fail to look at all options. Don't be blind to an excellent opportunity to continue your flight training simply because you chose ATP. It isn't the be-all end-all to flight training.

Plan 1 Once I am 16, On the summer of 2012, knock out the PPL at a local FBO. Then after I finish high school at 17, start college and on the next summer (2014 & 18 years old) do the 90 day ACPP, and instruct part time!

Plan 2(Backup) After finishing high school at 17, start college and on the first summer, get my PPL at ATP, and on the second one do the ACPP and instruct part time in college.

Plan 3(Backup) After college get into flight school.

It's good that you're making plans and considering possibilities. I think - at your age, anyway - the key is to have a pretty good idea what you want, but be flexible, too. You've got a lot of ground to cover between now and then.

Yes, with diligence, you can get your PPL over a summer, especially if you fly frequently and have a CFI and an FBO who can work with you aggressively.

I wanted to get my PPL when I was your age, but I ended up having to wait another 20 years before I could. Flying will always be there...keep it in mind and work toward it, but don't forget to enjoy your life along the way.

Do yourself a huge favor and get a college degree in technical field, like engineering, computer science, etc. Your plan only takes you through ATP. You need to also consider life at the airlines (if that's the route you want) and plan on getting furloughed at some point. Getting a useful degree will help put food on the table during the down times, and can help supplement your income in other times too.

I am aware of that, I am probably going to study aerospace engineering.

oh good. That is something I wish I did. My degree is not in aviation science but is just as worthless. I'm now trying to figure out how do a Master's program. It's not as easy on this side of the fence.
