ATP Locations

Hey Everyone,
I am planning to do my training at ATP within the next couple of years. Already have everything set up but I wanted to ask you guys a couple questions. And don't worry, I am not going to ask on opinions about the ATP flight school, obviously there are so many threads about that on this website.
So I was planning to go to ATP Trenton. But I have heard that their attitude varies from every one of their flight school - Has anyone every visited their School in Trenton? Any other information you can provide to me, would be very much appreciated.

A couple people on JC have gone to TTN and others have instructed/are instructing there. They can fill you in. NocturnalAviator is a current instructor there. He has been there for awhile so he may be on his way out before you get there but he can give you a good idea of a day in the life of ATP TTN.

If you are planning on going in a couple years then I would ask the same questions a little closer to your starting date. As has been discussed before, the ATP experience varies greatly depending on where/when you go. TTN may be ok now but could change in a couple years if the current instructors are gone.

Good luck to you!

Thank you sir,

I am still 14 years old. I will get a bachelor's degree on something I am not sure of - still quite early. On a summer holiday I will get my PPL at ATP and on the next one I will do the 90 day fast track program.
I will be 17 when I get out of high school and go to college, so I would say roughly 3-4 years.
I will contact NocturnalAviator and ask him a couple questions :)

Thank you for your help!!

That's great you're interested in joining ATP in the future, and especially at the Trenton location. The office is inside of Ronson Aviation's building, it's a bit older in construction and design but what we have in the ATP office in Trenton is very much up to date, and everything in it has just what you need to succeed in ATP's numerous programs. We now offer the private pilot program at TTN. Both fast track and self paced programs are available. Our fleet consists of 2-1979 Seminoles, and 2-C172s both R&S models. Currently we have 3 instructors employed* on-site (*independently contracted). Understand that the 90-day program or 150 day zero-hero deal is extremely intense and requires alot of your time studying on your own, and keeping up with homework assignments. We instructors will do our very best as always to help you along with this intense training program, but you must be dedicated 24/7 eat, sleep, and breathe flying. Be realistic, have tangible goals during and after your training. Just know you will not make $90K after ATP. LOL believe me i've heard star-strucken students walk-in and TELL ME the way it will be for them, so I sit back and say, "Oh really wow okay cool good for you hope it all works out for ya." laugh it off and then hear a different tune about the time they get their commercial certificate. LOL. Trenton is a great location. Great guys, relaxed atmosphere, we're all here to learn and have fun. Of course we follow ATP procedures and guidelines and are very professional, but we're not a bunch of "tight-asses" if you will. I hope this helps and wish you much success in your aviation endeavors.

I have instructed with ATP at TTN for almost 3 yrs now, and have plenty experience helping and teaching new students such as yourself and going through the motions of obtaining all of your required certificates.

Thank you so much for that information!!!
I am so happy to hear that. I am going to come over there on June and visit the school and see how it will be, as well as other flight schools too. Will you be there then?
Once again, thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to post.

How are you going to afford ATP? Being 14, it seems like you can do anything right now... But if you're parents are going to help you out and pay for ATP, why not just start at the FBO and get your PPL, IRA, and CSEL when you turn 18 and are able to take the checkride? Seems like for someone who knows ATP is the place for him in 4 years, you are forgetting to look for advice on what you can do in the mean while...... In 4 years you could be ready to take your CSEL/CFI and ready to instruct while in college.... And say forget about the 60-90k for ATP.... Just a wild thought.....

I have already saved plenty of money, enough to get me through college and ATP + a couple of spare dollars.

Why not just start at the FBO and get your PPL, IRA, and CSEL when you turn 18 and are able to take the checkride?
I don't have a local FBO. I live in Greece, no FAA here!!! I do have American citizenship though, and when I turn 17, I am going to move to the USA.

My plan is to finish High School here, move to the US, start college and get a bachelors degree on something that is not relevant with aviation. 2 summers before I finish college I will start the PPL program. On the last summer before I finish I will do the 90 day fast track program. So please don't be sarcastic and rude, at 14 I think I have a great plan set out for myself.

In my opinion here is how it is:
Some people like ATP, some people don't. The biggest kid on the block always has a target on their back - whether they deserve it or not.

No one is being rude.... Someone whom has worked with YOUTH and also is currently in the industry asked a few questions..... But since you have it all figured out, I will simply say you do not need any more input.... The plan does not seem BAD, but things do not always work out the way some intend them to ;)!

Sorry about that, just took the term " just a wild thought " too seriously and thought it was sarcastic. I wanted to edit it out later, but it wouldn't let me..
Since you are experienced and all, and know that you know a little something about me, could you recommend another approach to aviation?
Thanks!!

I think he already did. ;)

I think he already did. ;)

Yes, but that is if I was actually living in the United States. I will go the US when I am 17 and go to college right away, I won't have time for flight school. Thats why I thought I would do it quickly over the summer.

how exactly do you have enough for college, and 0-commercial ticket all at 14?

we're talking WELL over 100 thousand dollars here. at 14 that is unimaginable money. This must be from family members. Am I wrong?

It simply doesn't matter.

He is very enthusiastic about flying, going to college, planning for the future. A lot is going to happen between now and 3 years. Plans change, the economic environment changes. I can say for sure that most of the instructors that make the different ATP locations what they are will be gone.

Don't rip on him too much.

Frankly it's none of our business how he got the money.

Well... By no means am I saying your plan is "BAD." It does sound like a good plan. However I do not know your situation. If you are able to afford it and indeed have your dual citizenship perhaps you could make it over for a summer.... Start working on your PPL (Private). Perhaps by the time you are old enough to sit for that ride you could be ready to take the PPL..... There are many places you could work and also knock out a rating in the summer... But of course that would depend on your personal finances and also family situation in the states.....

There are many options. I think we would need to learn more about you.... And in all honesty many would be willing to offer tips..... Nothing wrong with wanting to get plans... Plan A, B, C and D...... :) Cant have too many!

Cant have too many!

I think I worked through like 5 plans on my journey though training. The way I had it planned back in 2001 changed in 2003, changed again in 2005 and finally culminated in 2007. My only advice to the OP is to not be so set on one idea that you fail to look at all options. Don't be blind to an excellent opportunity to continue your flight training simply because you chose ATP. It isn't the be-all end-all to flight training.

Disclaimer: I am an ATP grad. It was exactly what I needed, but I never forgot to explore all options.

That is really none of your business.

I joined this forum to get advice and not get asked personal questions as if I commited a crime. So please if you want to say something negative or want to criticise me in any way ; Don't do it.

As for everyone else thank you for your answers.:)

Hmm.. Well I visit the USA every summer, half of my family lives there and the rest live here in Greece. What else do you want to know? :)

I apologize for the attack. I didn't mean it as an attack, just as a question because I need any way i can to make money, so I was just hoping you'd share some light.

First of all, I suspect that there is no such independently wealthy 14 y/o living in Greece (who's economy is in the toilet). Already planning out the rest of his life, only pausing to get advice on Jet Careers. Most likely just postings by ATP employees trying to pimp the school.

For the record, the one time I went to Trenton it was run by a 300 lb slob who wasn't helpful at all. Either they got rid of that guy or they cracked the whip on him.

Besides that, it's New Jersey, the total armpit of the USA.

I already told you that I do have it, why would I lie? And what does it matter anyway? Did I ask if you believed me? Did I ask anything related to money?

As for everything else, I respect your opinion. I have heard lots of bad things about New Jersey.

I think the best thing to do is to visit as many flight schools as I can and talk to the instructors and the students.
