Your best bet is to call the 800 number... you might even ask if there is anyone one in the office who went to that location and then ask to speak specifically with them. I'm ceratin they would do that for you if there was an LGB alum present.
That being said... You are welcome to drop on in yourself and check it out.

Thanks for taking the time for the advice. What you said is the obvious and I certainly can pick up a phone to schedule an appointment. My objective was to obtain some impartial advice from former/current students at LGB. Im trying to use this medium to its full potential. Walking through a flight school and looking and pretty airplanes doesnt provide me with any 'real' information.

If you pick up the phone and call the 800 number, everyone who will answer the phone is a former student of SOME program of ATP's..
You can simply call in and ask the guy who answers to ask "Did anyone in the "call center" go to LGB?" There may be some one sitting at the "call center" who indeed attended LGB..
The guys answering the phones are "former" students..

Okay....this is the 2nd time I'm receiving this advice. Let me repeat...I know how to call the 800 line and ask the person if there is a former LGB pilot on staff. The problem with this approach is that its advice from a current employed individual. This isnt impartial whatsoever and would be suspect to bias advice/informatin.
I made the initial question to bring to surface any individual experience that would provide some insight into the facility at LGB which includes staff and equipment. The advice would unbiased consumer to consumer advice. Not employee to consumer advice. I dont need to be sold something here. This is kinda the idea of the forum....si?
With that said...I appreciate your intention.

I think the best way for you to get some info would be to call the 1-800 number, and ask them. They can probably get you on the phone with somebody that attended ATPs at LGB . . .

Please do not waste your time if you dont have direct experience with ATP at LGB and/or reference to their 800 number. I've contacted ATP already.

Ive been there a few times and think it's a great location. The office is very small, the sim is a AST 300, has no real compass (no partial panal) and no GPS, other than that it is a great sim. The planes are about a10sec. walk from the office. LGB is costal so you should get some approaches in imc. The airport is very busy and the taxiways are complex. Lyle is one of the instructors there and he is a good instructor and a good guy. Are you looking into the self paced program?

Ahhh...great advice! I appreciate it. I've trained 8 years ago out of LGB with a PPL with IR. Great airport for learning I must say. I'm suprised its not used more for primary training due its weather or lack thereof.
I was looking at the self paced program to get the ball rolling again. How far have you gone with training? Any particular goal?

I was an instructor out in LGB for ATP. I worked at three different locations, JAX, LAS, and LGB. I even spent some time in Phoenix. Atp is a great school. I did almost all my flight training there.
Each location is going to be different. It is all based on the flight instructors at that location at the time of your flight training. Lyle is one of the instructors out there now. I was his instructor in LAS for two of his CFI's and his Commercial Single. He flyies better than most that I have flown with and he makes you feel comfortable in the plane. He also has been there for a while and is in no hurry to go elsewhere. So he more than likely isn't going to be leaving half way through your training.
Dually important is personality. The best advise is to go down and talk to the instructors and getting an idea of how that particular location runs and if you think it is best for you.
I personally recommend the 90 day program. It is the same training but the day to day repetition really aids in the retention. But paying the costs and not working at the same time is not an option for all. So we do what we can.
I stand by ATP and their training. All of my instructors are flying for airlines. Some of my students are also starting to get hired by airlines. You can't beat the price nor the results. It is intense, it is alot of self motivational studying, but if you are disciplined, and focused, they will take you where ever you want to go.
