ATP Interview Phoenix

I doubt that they wouldn't let you in ever. But as I understand it they just make sure that your aptitude is high enough to make it through the program. But your right either way they DO want your money so I'm sure they would work with you if you needed to study up on more stuff.

wrong. its 2 way radio.
My interview, that was my answer, 2 way radio, instructor told me it was wrong, I needed an ADF!
I told him he was wrong, argued it, then he slammed it down on the table and said it doesn't matter anyhow, lol.
Do FSS stations even offer that anymore?

...will they actually not allow you to enter the program if you fail the interview???

I thought the requirment was a pulse, and a good FICO barring that the ability to get $70g's to pay for your training!

They'll tell you to go get some more instruction before you come back. "This isn't an evaluation of your ability as a pilot but of your ability to succeed in the program, etc etc." And it costs $55gs now, I think.

"My interview, that was my answer, 2 way radio, instructor told me it was wrong, I needed an ADF!"

I've done a DF steer. You only need a two way radio. ADF has nothing to do with it. I think DF steers are long gone, though. It was a 70's thing.

I was told that although FSS is the place to call for a DF steer, you can't count on them having the equipment any longer. If you aren't in radar coverage it's probably easier just to have you climb until you are rather than keep an ancient piece of equipment working.

"This isn't an evaluation of your ability as a pilot but of your ability to succeed in the program, etc etc."
:yeahthat:

I took an interview person up for a flight once when the sim was broken (the poor guy flew in from out of town, so admin approved a flight at no extra cost). I didn't care that the guy had never been in a twin and had no idea what manifold pressure was. The point is first to see if they have the level of knowledge appropriate to the certificate they currently hold. Things like leveling off, flying straight and level, remembering a power setting I told him a few minutes earlier, telling me what some of the airport signs were, etc, are all things a PPL should be able to do. And even more important was that they could listen, and I liked to see (in the sim or in the real airplane) that when someone is put into a situation beyond their knowledge level (like a light twin FTD or airplane) that they don't get angry or "shut down". Because 1/3rd of the course is instrument training, and it's a lot of knowledge to absorb and also apply to real life constantly changing situations. I don't think anyone strolls through instrument training without falling way behind the airplane at least a few times. Which means attitude is everything.

Hey all,

I just took my interview in Phoenix. It was the above 25 questions, some private pilot questions by an instructor and some ppl questions by an RJ instructor and finally a simulator session. Wasn't too bad. Gotta iron out the financing then I'll be set to go.

Interviewing in Arlington next week. Then it's on like Donkey Kong. Well, Donkey Kong will have to wait until at least the first week of March because that was the earliest start date I was told I could get as of last week.:banghead:

Anybody know how full the classes are for March in PHX? I would like to start at that time, but I have not done an interview yet. I am suppose to do my Stage 1 checkride for my PPL this week. I don't want to rush things, but I feel that I need to get started as soon as possible. When should I plan on an interview? I have heard after my PPL is complete. How many students do they have in one class? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! :)

I wouldnt start the process until you have completed your PPL, that should be your main focus. You can always give them a call and find out the earliest opening in PHX though, but unless you want to get hounded, dont give up your phone number or email. As for the "classes" I started by myself, sometimes 2 people start together. PHX might be different since its bigger though, but you dont really have "classes."

Thanks for the good info Rob. I am scheduled to take my stage 1 checkride tomorrow morning. I have a feeling that it will be canceled. It is suppose to snow2 to 4 inches tomorrow with a high temp of 21 F. Not too cold to fly, but too low visibility. I'll just half to wait until next week. Does anybody know what the housing is like in PHX? It is not the 182 that is being discussed about in another thread is it? Anyways, I want to get as many hours done as quickly as the weather allows. I am not working right now, laid off, and it would be nice to get the time in so that I can start ATP without trying to find a temp job for a few months or at worst go back to my old job in January. So if there are any millionaires out there, you make a donation to "Jerry's Kids". lol

These 25 questions posted here are they like multiple choices or you have to write your own answers. please advise.

multiple choice I believe, though I never took it, but I seen it somewhere. The only reason they have it is so the applicants feel good about them self, and they sign up for the program, Its a marketing tool IMO

I seen it every time, easy questions on interview, then a lesson in the sim, then they will tell you that your good a good flyer, and also tell you your weak points so that you think they are being honest with you.... etc,,, so you'll be coming out of there thinking you found the perfect school (not that it isn't)

**Bump**
Suppose to interview tomorrow at PHX. Curious as to who all is there and like to meet up with students of 90 day.
