ATP Instructor Pay

Base pay is $1000/mo, *salaried*, (that's gross pay if I'm not mistaken).

Deduct $200 if you take advantage of the apartments at Career Pilot locations.

Bonuses are paid for your students passing their checkrides on the FIRST attempt only.
-$100 for each career pilot (about 4/month)
-$40 for each add-on (ie, ATP's, Multi-IFR's). Number of these varies.

-Potentially anywhere from $1,200 to 1,500/mo can be made.

Hope I got that right. CaptainBob, Adrock or Merlin can correct me if I'm wrong.

That's dead on correct. I am fairly busy, averaging over 120 hours per month, and bring home about $1200-1250 per month after the housing is taken out. If I did a lot of short programs (2 day ATPs, etc) it would be much higher, but we don't offer those here.

Thanks for the info guys! pscraig are you an instructor in LAS? Do you get a lot of multi time?

He'll answer this, but he works there, I flew with him once while I did the total CFI program out of VGT. He taught me a lesson on how to be Bad Flight Instructor, which has come in handy already.

He is a good guy and if I didn't have other things holding me back right, I would definitely apply with ATP and try to get placed in Las Vegas. He is raking in the multi hours (over a 100 a month).

I've already decided that I'm not going to do my CFI at UND. I'd like to do the CFI program at ATP, get hired with them and move back to the west.

Damn, that's a lot of multi time. How long have you been instructing? Do you like it?

I was hired in August 2003. I like this job a lot-it is extremely demanding, but it's a fair deal considering what I get out of it. It' s also useful for my own skills, since about half of my dual given is instrument instruction.

I think what lruppert is talking about is something I teach every CFI-how to deal with a slack/arrogant/lazy/etc student. Sometimes you just have to lay down the law, but there are tactful and constructive ways to do it.

You sending out resumes with that time? Some of us here in the office are getting mighty anxious for some people to start moving /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You are right, I meant that, the part of the job CFI's don't want to do (How to tell a nice student that he/she isn't doing well and seems to be getting worse).

Hopefully I'll see you guys in Vegas soon. I'm starting the Key Bank paperwork tomorrow, so interest rates and credit check willing I should be out there by the end of the year.....

Yep, my resumes are filling airline mailboxes across the country at this point. Things here seem to move in surges, and I know it's frustrating. I was in the office nearly three months. But trust me, nobody wants me to get hired somewhere more than I do!

Thanks Brain, I'll check that out. I'm getting a little concerned-plenty of people (with FAR fewer hours) going to airlines recently, and I haven't heard a thing. Very frustrating!

pscraig, I know you instruct out of Las Vegas. How much actual IMC have you logged? Did you start ATP with zero time? Thanks.

I had a private pilot ticket and 150 hours when I came to ATP for the Career Pilot Program. I have about 25 actual-not much weather in the desert.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about moving to somewhere with nice weather and palm trees to start training. But I'm also thinking about moving back to my home state of Oregon: no sales tax and pleanty of clouds. But I have lots of things to consider before making the move. Good luck with the job search.
