ATP for your ATP?

Anyone out there go to ATP and do their 3 or 10 day program that gets you your Atp written and certificate?
I've been thinking about plunking down the cash to go get them, that's really the only thing I don't have.
Thanks

I used to instruct there back in the day... and my primary student was military and freight guys coming in and getting their ATP's.

There is no "10 day" program... There is the basic ATP Written & Certificate program that takes 3 days... or you can do a 10-hour program which realistically should also only take three days... 4 days if you add in the written.

There's also a program they call a 6 point prep program that includes the FEX written... although we mostly did that program for the military guys.

I always got some positive feedback from the customers... I don't think much has changed... but there are a few current instructors on here that may chime in...

Hey, I just thought of something.

I might have actually gone to ATP.

I got my ATP at a place in Long Beach called All ATP's (I think). It was back in the mid-80's. Examiner on staff was Abe Pastor. That's all I remember.

Could that have been the ATP of today?

Wouldn't that just be ironic....

Ooohh, After all your bashing of ATP, we find that your guilty of sinning too. Just joking btw. How was your ATP experiance? at least you can say that "Ive been there" from now on, (that is if its the same school...)

Fair enough...

When I got my ATP in Long Beach in the mid-80's (still not sure of the connection to the present day ATP). I had two flights prior to the checkride and each were EXACTLY flown to known profile of the on staff examiner, Abe Pastor.

Prior to the checkride, I was told that if I paid the fee for the MEI course (it was $699, as I recall) I could combine the ATP ride with the MEI ride and walk away with both ratings.

Seemed like a good deal to me and I've had a MEI ever since. Never used it, though (I think that's about to change).

The ride was a ATP checkride. I was never in the right seat nor asked anything about MEI stuff. Guess it was legit, though...

As to "bashing ATP". I'd like to make it clear that I'm only bashing the 90 day program. Do a search as to why. I got no problem with the place, outside of that, other than some marketing/website stuff.

That said, if the current day ATP is teaching the checkride and doing min standards like the place I got my ATP, then it's nothing more than a min standards pilot factory.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.....(sarcasm).....

Well i think ATP is the best flight school to prep for your ATP check ride. I cant imagine any other flight school offering a prep for that checkride in such a short period of time and for such a great price..its like 1700 bucks or so.

Of course the 2 day (4 hour) ATP course is just teaching you the checkride profile! By the time you have 1500 hours as well as the other requirements for the rating met, you should not be expecting to learn how to fly by getting ready for your ATP checkride. Ive had the opportunity to fly with some excellent pilots for their ATP training. Of course they dont know jack about flying the seminole, but thats the point. I think its tailored to pilots who just are getting out of the military with a ton of turbine PIC. Theyre never gonna fly one again, its just to get that certificate so they can apply to the major airlines.
