ATP/Envoy Flow Through

Hello,
I have a friend who is in the following situation, and I am curious to see everyone's thoughts and input into the following scenario.
The friend wants to be an airline pilot, and has a private pilot certificate now, but no college degree. He will attend ATP's 100 day program and enter the contract with Envoy to get the $11,000 reimbursement and a "guaranteed" spot at American. How reliable are these flow through programs? Isn't it quite the gamble to assume that it's ok to skip college since there is theoretically a spot waiting for him at American? Or is it indeed a smart idea to take the no college route as the cost savings will be large?

Yyeeeeaaaaahhhh. It's probably legit IF you make it through the program on their timeline.

You can always do the college while teaching and building up to ATP mins, I guess.

If you make it through the check ride.

I wouldn't sign my life away for that contract...especially because it has a high buy out (from what I've been told by recruiters) and industry pay is changing pretty fast. All depends on how far away you are but with how far he is, why would you commit to something that's uncertain when you aren't even close? Pay is better at regionals elsewhere and still going up.

Also, they advertise 5 year flow when I just got told on another thread flow is anywhere between 13-15 years. Someone at Envoy could fact check me on that, I'm curious to know the answer. Don't commit to a program so early in your career. It will shut so many possibilities and doors...even if you do plan on going to the airlines. I waited until I was a CFI with about half a year left to make my decision. Not as a private pilot getting SJS from a recruiter.

Also, I'd plan on getting a degree at some point in your career....and something to fall back on...
 
I just shared a commute with an Envoy captain and I inquired about his own flow. He's been on property for 9yrs and expects to flow in the next year, year and a half. I don't know where this 5yr flow number comes from. The math just doesn't add up.
