Well, I got the big stick from OKC today. I got my ATP SEL in 2010 to "lock in" my older "dual purpose" written until I could get access to a multi to add MEL to my ATP. That makes me comply with 61.155(d) and I'd be grandfathered in without having to retake a written. That was the whole purpose of taking an ATP ride within 24 months of my written right?
Wrong. OKC said if my written is more than 24 months old I have to retake it, even if I'm already an ATP Airplane. I even have a 4 year degree in aviation from ERAU and 2 years of 135 experience with simuflite Dallas king air 90/200 course twice. They say there is no exemption process in place to take any experience into consideration. I'm infuriated, I don't know who to contact from here to initiate a change in the reg. The aopa maybe?
I didn't spend $140k+ at ERAU to get out and have to pay again to be qualified when I'm already an ATP. I just want the MEATP to pad the resume for corporate jet hops. I don't plan on being a 121 pilot but looks like I might have to go that route if I ever want the MEATP unless I can get a deviation or letter somehow. If you read 61.165(f)(2) it says you have to comply with 61.155(c)(which is complied with by 155(d)) no mention of the CTP like other add ons. Doesn't matter how the reg reads, I guess it's how OKC interprets it.
