ATP CTP Options...

Long story short.... im an idiot and probably cost myself $5,000. In regards to the new ATP rule I never read the Reg that said 1 August you have to have the Certificate Training Program completed in order to take your WRITTEN test. I assumed that it meant you take your written, then had to have the CTP to complete your practical test. I guess thats what i get for assuming things.

My question is if there is anywhere besides Embry Riddle that wants you to earn a degree and ATP that offer the program yet. $5000 is what it appears ATP is offering the CTP for and id like to see if im not just missing some other options out there before i have to suck it up and drop the money.

Thanks!

I think finding a school that provides that is your best bet. I only know of ATP doing it, but I'm sure there are others you just have to look around. It was a HUGE topic of discussion over the last year. There was a mad rush to get the ATP written completed before August 1st due to this issue. I don't know that any airlines or companies in general at all that will hire you and pay for the ATP training required to take your written yet. Although, I foresee airlines may do that in the future.

Thanks Guys!

It looks Looks like im stuck still for a while. I've sent an email to Embry but from what i understand they don't do "just" flight training. you have to be an enrolled student to take advantage. Thanks FAA! (and me for being a dummy)

I would think that Airlines are developing some sort of training program to incorporate this. I'm lucky enough at my current flying job to potentially be able to afford to pay for the cost of the CTP. While i don't want to go this route... if that's my only option what else can i do. I have worked pretty hard at setting myself up to be able to move onto the airlines (with the low pay) and am lucky enough to also have a wife that makes good money. I cant imagine some of the pilots out there working for peanuts already with debt from flight training being forced to tack on another 5-10 grand to there loans just to get an interview. Sorry, i know im beating a dead horse.

I would also think that someone could create an online program (like Jepp. does for private and instrument) just in the sense that one of my and im sure other working pilots biggest issues is getting away from work for 7-8 days in a row to complete the ground school portion.

They are.

Once you have the times, initial training at the airlines will meet all the requirements for the ATP written and the sim training will be the checkride.

DO NOT pay for the new CTP training out of pocket! If an operation requires you to have an ATP, then they should pay for you to go through this class.

Just for information i just spoke with someone at the Atlanta Flight Safety office and they are releasing a CTP program in the next few weeks offered in Atanta. Cost is around $7500.00

I'm with Arizona State's professional flight program and ATP is our provider. Neither ASU or ATP clarified what happens to those who didn't take the ATP written and if the university would incorporate CTP in their syllabus. However all regionals that visit ASU for recruiting purposes, American Eagle, Air Wisconsin etc. told students that regionals will incorporate the CTP in their hiring process. I wouldn't freak out just yet.

Sporty's flight training is setting up a program as well. The did a webinar recently to clarify the new rules.
The are partnering with a local University to set it up. They estimaed the cost at around $4K. Might be up and running by Xmas.
Check out the recorded webinar. Very informative...once you get past the first 15 mins of blah blah.

I just finished recurrent and they talked about how we got approval for it, and even then they really didn't have to change anything other than the atp written as am addition to the syllabus.

So basically, what airlines are doing already works...don't pay for it...get paid for it

What company do you fly for If you don't mind me asking.? Or if you could send me a PM .tryin to look for airlines that have the Ctp program in place.

Hello, I am looking for a sim partner for the FAA ATP CTP course at a facility in FL. The course will be in June and is greatly discounted. Anyone interested should inbox me ASAP

ExpressJet is approved. If you meet ATP minimums and pass the interview you are given a conditional hire. They put you through the program for free.
I'm not 100% sure of the details but qualifications listed in link below. If you call I'm sure they will give details.
At this time they do not have a contract for the ATP training but that is subject to change.

I was worried and now I'm not.

I took the written last year before the cutoff date.

I was worried that I might not be able to hit the 1500 in 2 years.

Now with most of the regional's advertising that they will pay for the ATP I've moved on worrying about other stupid things.

But then again I still have 1000 hours to go, so, never know what could happen.

What about pilots in the non-121 path? I doubt your run of the mill 134.5 operators will become approved CTP providers, so how do they allow their SICs to progress? Shell out $5000 or send them to work for a regional for a year?
